hopefully it’s just friendly “owner speak” and he’s currently on the phone with McDaniel telling him he him can send Penix to Mars if he wants as long as he retains Ulbrich, the OL coach, & Nate Ollie
Who else would be? We won’t have another QB on the roster after the season in complete.

I know Michael Penix Jr has been injury prone, but let’s not pretend that he didn’t stay healthy for 3 seasons in a row, 2 in Washington and most of last year backing up Cousins before he came in the last 3 games. Let’s also not forget Penix Jr was having a great game vs the Panthers before he tore his ACL, Cousins came in and wasn’t any good.
It’s extremely difficult to find a new franchise QB. You all think it be easy to just move on from Penix Jr and find another QB in a future draft? While our defense is still young and fresh, while Bijan is still on his rookie contract before he has to be paid?
It’s only fair with Penix’s talent he gets ONE MORE SHOT with a more complete coaching staff. If he can stay healthy. Everyone talks about Penix not being able to play under center, but what if a veteran or better OC knows how to utilize him fully in ways Zac Robinson could never?
Don’t let Penix’s 4-8 record fool you, most of those losses were cuz of Jimmy Lake’s terrible defense, bad in game clock management by Raheem, or bad special teams all season long prior to finding Gonzalez, but by the time Gonzalez was here Penix was already out for the season.

I still believe in mike, when he went down vs the panthers he was 13-16 175. He was on a great pace and definitely was going to put on a great game.
I would like for Penix to be successful, but I’m gonna need to see a lot more than what we saw this season.

Seems weird to be making such a declaration right after letting everyone go and announcing a complete overhaul of the organization, but ooookay.
I know Ryan Grubb (who was MPJ’s OC at UW) busted badly in Seattle, but if by some chance the new staff tries him I wouldn’t be opposed. Especially if it gets him away from Seattle

We need to get a competent backup for next year but i really am rooting for penix to show us what he can do with a competent play caller and head coach. Prove us wrong. Its good to see blank backing his guy

Penix had just shy of 2,000 yards, 10 total TDs (9 passing and 1 rushing) and just 3 interceptions in 8 1/2 games. Project that over a full 17-game season, and his stat line would be 4,000 yards, 20 TDs, and 6 ints. That’s pretty darn good, especially for a QB in his first full year as a starter and especially for a team who has an elite RB and therefore a very balanced offensive attack.
Granted, we need him to be healthy for any of that to matter. But his production was quite good for a first-year starter.
We gotta mold everything around him. I know the game has changed, but back in the day Namath had bad knees so they just schemed to protect him. Can offensive coordinators not do that? Ok he can’t move, he still has a canon and when in rhythm is hard to stop. Mold the offense to him.
Best thing Blank can do is keep himself out of football decisions. You let your GM and next coach determine if Penix is the guy
So he’s suppose to go into an interview and say “no, I don’t believe in the guy on my roster…I’ll comfortably telegraph to everyone that we’re going after a QB even before any of the people in decision making positions are hired”
I hate Penix’s injury history, but I’m also of the opinion that teams have to be willing to spend some time developing their QBs. He has only played 14 NFL games, and while he hasn’t been great in all of them, he has shown a lot of flashes. I’d like to see him in an actual competent offensive system. Hopefully that will be the case the next time that he steps on the field.
