0.287/0.331/0.409 slash in 464AB/120G. Likely represents a modest upgrade over Shaw’s bat, but a slight downgrade defensively. Would also allow Shaw to become a valuable bench super-UTIL. The reason this represents a cheap insurance maneuver is Bohm is a free agent after the upcoming season and the Phillies would be eager to move his contract. Looking at historic comps, supposing the Phillies wanted an outfield prospect ranked near the top 20 like Brett Bateman, would you be interested in pulling the trigger?

  1. Shaw was better than bohm last year or pretty much any of bohms years. Really similar bats last year and Shaw significantly better fielder. If bohm is super cheap as a quality bench bat it’s not too bad but not what I would focus on.

  2. If the Cubs are determined to never let Michael Busch get regular starts against LHP, I feel like Bohm could maybe platoon there, but I would much rather see Michael get those AB’s

  3. Honestly bohm is a toss up I wouldn’t get him bader tho would be better just for the speed and a decent bench bat to have

  4. bwar says shaw had a better year and was slightly worse offensively. fwar has them basically at the same value. fangraphs projects shaw to have a better year. Shaw makes minimum and bohm makes 10 million.
