[The Athletic] Cleveland 3rd in list of 5 MLB teams that have moved backwards so far this offseason

  1. we go as far as valera, delauter, and bazzana take us. i’m betting 84 wins

  2. We keep betting on our AAAA players becoming solid MLB starters or even stars for about 8 years now. It’s not been a complete failure, but with a few exceptions (not enough to field a championship team) it hasn’t been a rousing success.

  3. And yet we will probably make the playoffs yet again and the circle of life continues

  4. so obviously brendan donovan would make sense, but what’s with the rest of the guys this article lists as potential targets?

    * brenton doyle – an outfielder who can’t hit
    * jesus sanchez – a left handed outfielder who can’t hit
    * luis robert – an expensive guy who appears to be pretty cooked
    * laars nootbar – another left handed outfielder
    * jarren durran – another left handed outfielder

did whoever wrote this article even bother looking at cleveland’s current roster construction? (answer: almost certainly not)

i’m certainly not claiming cleveland’s offense is good, but which of these guys is supposed to be a “middle of the order” bat that makes sense for the roster as it currently exists?

  5. I don’t see how the team is worse now than it was all through September. What has anyone in the Central done to get better?

    Santana had already been DFAd
    Thomas wasn’t playing
    Noel wasn’t useful
I don’t know what hitter could be worse than they were last year.

  6. We need a complete overhaul of the front office.

We haven’t developed a hitter besides Kwan in the past 10 years. Hell, not even an average hitter.

We have gotten by with pitching and a weak division the last 10 years and that’s quickly closing.

Not one of our highly touted prospects have done anything the past 10 years.

This season is going to be miserable.
