ANSWERS REVEALED: Zack Minasian on Why the Giants haven’t made a BIG SPLASH and were OUT on Imai

GM Zack Minasian addressed the Giants’ offseason direction, offering clarity — and raising new questions — about where this roster is headed. Tyler Mahle also spoke, saying he feels the best physically he has since 2021, while Minasian made it clear the Giants are “very comfortable” with their five-man rotation heading into spring, even as Tatsuya Imai signs for less than expected elsewhere. We break down what the Giants’ silence really means, why they may be waiting rather than stalling, and how finances, the RSN landscape, and looming CBA uncertainty could be shaping this offseason. Plus, what’s next for the lineup, whether Posey is being stonewalled or simply patient, and why this front office still feels like it’s holding something back.

  1. Should of combined money for hauser and mahle and signed Imai. For business purposes alone. Do you think Dodgers arent making money hand over fist by tapping into the Japanese market. Giants not being smart

  2. Whatever the excuses the Giants use, they are still going to be a .500 team, they will still miss the playoffs, and they will still be fodder for upset fans who dont care why they refuse to spend.

  3. I'm so sick of hearing year after year "the Giants were in the conversation" for some sought after free agent that would meet their needs. Is that supposed to make me feel good? How about them actually acquiring one for a change?

  4. Our lineup should be as follows:

    1. Chapman – doesn't hit well with people on base. Has smart base running and good speed. Walks more than you think.
    2. Devers – best bat on the team and this is proper spot for MLB in 2026.
    3. Ramos – Best power outside of Devers. Best hitter outside of Devers.
    4. Eldridge – ok, I know it's controversial to put him here but imo, we don't have anyone concistenly better and I like sandwiching him between two more proven players.
    5. Adames – I don't know that Adames could be a true cleanup hitter so I like keeping him at 5. See above.
    6. Lee – No need to pressure him to lead off, plus this creates a potential second leadoff type as he continues his growth. Makes consistent contact and we saw in real time him understanding who he should be as a hitter.
    7. Schmitt – don't understand the issue with him playing 2nd. Grew as a hitter. Good bat for this spot.
    8. Bailey – we all know Bailey was terrible at the plate last season. We also know that the RF is likely even worse and Bailey has to hit somewhere. Hopefully he has a better season.
    9. Whoever plays RF – I can't imagine this person being a + bat so whatever we get here is a bonus.

Obviously any of this could change as people either improve or fail, but I like this as our opening day lineup and should keep it for consistency.

  5. I think Minasian would’ve owned not signing imai if the front office didn’t want him for that 3 year deal. Feels like he answered in a roundabout way since he definitely can’t throw ownership under the bus in his position

  6. Remember when it was, "Just wait until the stadium is paid off!"
Now it seems like it's "let's just hope Greg Johnson decides to sell his shares."
But why would he? With the lucrative real estate investments, he found a winning formula.
Unfortunately for the fans, all of his winning comes off the field. They are the Dodgers of real estate.
And well, on the field, we are the Giants of baseball. A meddling .500 team.

  7. Did you really bring up Tang? I honestly can't believe what anyone sees in that guy. Sorry, he can't pitch. Absolutely SHELLED in the starts I've watched. Didn't he have like a 10 or 11 era? What a joke to even bring that name up, dfa him and I guarantee no one picks him up. Laughable.

  8. Lee to right would bump encarcion? who's show,d good disapline& swings the the plate! looks a little like Willie McCovey!!🦾.. do need a better/faster defensive CTR fielder tho! their stuck with Dever's & Chapman 🤪 thanks to Posey! appreciate d Farhan and all the options he freed up at most positions! JD wasn't that bad! with Flores, Schmidt, Fitzgerald ,Koss, Encarcion, DomSmith, Eldridge, all sharing and earning their time!
now most players are bench warmers! Susan talk,n bout Patience! Posey's been anything but patient give,n those Ludicrous LONGTERM contracts away at RANDOM!!

  9. Allen Stiles should get a low-ball $10 million contract with the Giants. He steps up to the plate all year long making consistent contact more than anyone else on the team or in the organization.

  10. Allen for you to even suggest that the '3rd Wild Card' might be the goal shows that you are out of touch with the front office. The goal is ALWAYS the division+. The wildcard only exists as a fallback, in case they don't win the division. The Farhan years where they made the '3rd wildcard' their stated goal, they ALWAYS missed the playoffs… Except for the season when winning the division was the clear set goal from spring training. And they went out and won the division. Posey was the driving force behind that. Please stop trying to condition the fans to think in Farhan terms, such as the wildcard, or 'sneaking in'. Posey was the driving force in 2021, and he's back. The wildcard is in NO WAY the goal of the San Francisco Giants.

  11. Read the article on the Giants' web site about how Minasian is really happy with his five starters, projected. It makes sense if they are waiting for Birdsong or another young arm to break through. Otherwise, to rely on Hauser or Mahle would be optimistic, based on injury history. If anything happens to Webb or Ray, they will struggle to stay at .500. Of course, the offense may surprise, which would mean a big rookie year from Eldridge and some surprise contributions, maybe from Encarcion.

  12. More than 10 years after the last championship the Giants have become perennial dumpster-divers trying to win on the cheap. Year after year it's .500 baseball while LA stacks trophies. What a sad decline; a disgrace really.

  13. To me it sounds like Menasian is foreshadowing a potential bigger move, where they didnt think Imai was the best "recommendation" but they have planes for a better suitor.

  14. Buster Posey was Leonardo Da Vinci as a ballplayer but that really doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot because leading a front office is extremely hard. Tell em Wash LOL.

  15. GET OWNERSHIP THE HECK OUTTA THE FRONT OFFICE. SO IN OTHER WORDS- YES- IT ACTUALLY IS BUSTER'S MONEY LOL. By the way I would def support Posey getting an OPPORTUNITY to lead front office as long as he has no ownership stakes in ballclub.

  16. When it comes to signing Imai and other free agents, we need to remember free agents choose where they sign; Imai might not have chosen to sign with the Giants for the same price he signed with Houston. I think it’s silly to overpay free agents 20-30% or more to get them to San Francisco. Soooo many Giants fans hate the owners and blame this and that, but what if free agents just aren’t interested in a Giants team that hasn’t made the playoffs in awhile?
