[Passan] Third baseman Alex Bregman and the Chicago Cubs are in agreement on a five-year, $175 million contract, sources tell ESPN. One year after their failed pursuit of Bregman in free agency, the Cubs land one of the biggest bats of the winter.

  1. The fit here made less sense after Okamoto signed. Can’t wait for Tucker to be a Jay.

  2. Lmfao, Isaac Paredes 2.0 terrible move and will age horribly.

    For 35 million a year… pass

  3. Wow I was not expecting bregman to get more than a 3 year with opt outs. Alonso really set the market with his 5/150. Hopefully this brings Bo’s value down to something more realistic like 210/7 instead of 300.

  4. Thought this was important because I feel like 175/5 for Bregman can give us some guidance for what the Bichette contract will look like. I have to imagine Bichette will be looking for similar AAV for longer term?

Mind you, Bregman is four years older with a career 5.7 WAR per 162, Bichette is at 4.5 per 162.

I personally felt like a good Bo contract would be 180 over 6 years, 210 over 7 if we had to.

  5. Resisting the urge to go watch (watch only) the Red Sox sub melt down / convince themselves that Bo is the answer

  6. Do the Red Sox and NYY not want to spend anymore? I know there is still off season to go but this is just wild.

  7. Red Sox are gonna pursue Bo HARD now

Not gonna lie if we miss on Tucker I’ll be pretty mad, we gotta make a move now that the market will take off

  8. Wow…no wonder why Bo thinks he can get $300m….

Id still like to bring him back, but he has to take either deffered money or incentives to get the numbers his camp is wanting

  9. Hopefully, this means the big bats all sign somewhere this week and everyone can move on to spring training!

  10. Bo will sign with Phillies or Red Sox it seems, both teams will bid hard and Jays will likely not able to match.

  11. I won’t be surprised if we see Tucker and Bo sign this week. Everyone was waiting for one of the pieces to fall before everything else started moving – it was a game of chicken. I’m not sure where they’ll end up, but I don’t see it lasting much longer.

I hope that Tucker signs here at this point. I just think he balances out our lineup a lot. I love Bo’s consistency and his approach, but his health and defense are big concerns. But we shall see.

  12. So Cubs set the market, give Tucker 300/8 and Bo 250/8, idc it’s not my money and I want it all.
