Red Sox misreading the market? You don’t say.
Don’t care for Pierzynski but the Red Sox FO as far as I’m concerned has 0 credibility.
Breslow sure likes to act confident for someone that has achieved so little.
Garbage owners. There’s really nothing else to say.
It’s ok, they still have the contract drafted up and they can do a quick find-and-replace to put Bichette’s name on it, in their next “aggressive” lowball
Edit: lot of people offended on behalf of billionaire John Henry. He’s not paying you
Hubris, arrogance, and ineptitude.
They gave away Devers just to do this to his replacement lmao
These two statements are one and the same. If they didn’t believe he was getting a higher offer than of course they wouldn’t meet it, because they didn’t think it existed.
I do wonder what the actual communication sounded like though. Did they just say something like “sorry we can’t go that high” or did they laugh at his agent and call him a liar?
Did anyone actually believe Bregman was getting more than 5bfor 150
Henry has handcuffed the FO on pursuing top FA and now the organization looks like a fucking joke/ shit show. Good for Bregs honestly; stick it to that f-ing asshole JH.
Not defending ownership because they have fault in this as well but as far as not believing he had a better offer- when your agent named boras says anything and everything and leaks false info to reporters to make teams offer more for all of his players whether it’s true or not it turns to the boy who cried wolf
What a fuckin clown show
Mannnn Breslow really is a fucking idiot.
Breslow is too dumb to be a quant like a Stearns or Neander, and too much of a nerd to be a Dombrowski, lay your nuts on the table, type. Just truly the worst of both worlds. Fucking stiff.
I am so tired of hearing stories like this from the Front Office.
This lines up unfortunately. They would rather have 26 players on good contracts than 26 good players.
I don’t want to do the blame game but it is certainly shared. Part of it is how green Breslow still is at times and an ownership group that has lost some drive since Larry and seems more concerned about a tax bill. Every underwater contract is treated like the Sandoval deal. It is normal for a large market team to have a couple expensive deals.
Free agency has changed drastically to the point of when you have to believe them more when they threaten that there is a better offer. Dbacks, Padres, Mets, and Phillies are teams that didn’t spend like this a decade ago. Dodgers were bankrupt late 00s when the league took their team and sold it. They can’t just wait for a JD Martinez to be cheap anymore. There is always another team now. It’s not just you and the Yankees fighting for players anymore.
The Red Sox are not the Rays or Pirates but they are almost this Astros and Braves approach where it’s team friendly deals everywhere but not many free agents.
This is what “we won’t bid against ourselves” actually gets you btw. If they’d offered 5/$165 on day 1 of free agency I guarantee you Bregman is still on this team. They fucked around far too long trying to save a couple bucks.
We’re a big market team with a small market mindset. Totally unserious team.
Fire Craig and get someone with balls and grit in here and not some wine drinking robot who thinks he’s smarter than eveyone in the room. We need a Dombro type guy back
To be fair – Red Sox werent “misreading” the market… they just refused to be a market setting and bid against themselves. It’s smart business, but you take the risk of getting outbid and losing the player.
AJ is a dickhead, but I hear no lies here. All of this tracks for our FO…
John Henry hasn’t allowed a single cent to be spent this offseason
Breslow has zero people skills
Henry…well he’s a lost cause
If you want to be paid your fair, market rate…do not expect to ever be on the Red Sox.
It does not pay to invest time and energy into this team. Not with Henry at the helm anyway. They’ll be competitive but just like these player’s acquisitions, they’ll always fall short.
I love baseball and the Red Sox, but it’s becoming increasingly hard to buy-in to their bs
Weren’t they also unwilling to give Bregman a no trade contract because it’s not “policy.” If that was the key reason he didn’t resign that might be an even bigger management red flag.
I won’t miss Bregman and he isn’t worth the contract
It’s hard to believe Boras.
Fuck the Red Sox Front Office and Fuck Bres and Kennedy. Can’t stand those 2 Motherfuckers
I already knew this was exactly how it went down without Pierzynski even having to say it. It goes without saying at this point.
I heard they were aggressive though. Who should I believe? /s
Boycott is the only way to send a message at this point.
If Boston had signed him *without* any opt-outs – like the cubs just did – the Sox wouldn’t be sitting with their thumbs up their asses now. This franchise is braindead, alienating fans, and they seemingly don’t care. I hope Fenway sells less tickets, ratings drop, and fans start turning away, because the only way I see this team having success is if Henry sells the team. An owner like Cohen would be so much fun’er for fans. The Red Sox have become an inferior team. If they win another world series in my lifetime, I’ll be surprised. And honestly, I don’t care anymore. I’d rather watch Devers in Oracle. All that talk of Devers being a locker room cancer and Bregman being the superstud replacement is now nothing.
