Now Tony Dungy is out here saying playoff scheduling “isn’t fair.”

Let’s rewind for a second.
The 49ers have been here before.
They were the #1 seed in the NFC in 2023.
They played the Green Bay Packers on a Saturday.
Did anyone cry then?
Did Shanahan complain about recovery time?
Did the league suddenly become “unfair”?
Nope. Silence.
But now the Seahawks are the #1 seed, now Seattle gets the Saturday slot, and suddenly it’s a crisis. Suddenly recovery time matters. Suddenly the NFL needs to “understand.”
Why should the #1 seed Seahawks be put at a disadvantage to accommodate a lower seed?
This is how the playoffs have always worked.
Top seeds don’t get custom schedules.
TV windows matter. Short weeks happen.
If the roles were reversed, the 49ers fanbase wouldn’t say a word and we all know it.
So let’s call it what it is:
Not outrage.
Not fairness.

I mean… You can make this argument about a bajillion things. The Seahawks by far have the toughest travel schedule in the NFL, every year. Some teams bye week comes at the best time, others the worst. Teams get into the playoffs because they play in a division that happens to be weak, or miss out despite being a good season because the rest of their division is really good. Sometimes you play on Thursday when your star just needed one more day, or you got them back because you play on Monday night. I’m sure the Colts have a few things to say about “fair” this year. Suck it up, buttercup.
Would’ve had more rest if they won in week 18
Win the division during the season, or get the first seed and have home field advantage throughout with an extra week of rest. If not, then deal with the hand you are dealt.
Not a great analogy for this but for me this is like getting bad grades and complaining why you didn’t get into the school you wanted.

i don’t recall Dungy making this argument when 6-seeded baltimore had to go play #1 seed Indy on 6-days rest in 2009-2010.
The NFL is giving the advantage to the 1 seed. For the divisional round, if the 1 seed played on Sunday and won while and the other match was played on Saturday, then the team coming out of the other match would have an extra day of rest for the CCG. Instead, the 1 seed gets that extra day of rest, as they should — they won the conference and should have any advantage possible for the playoffs. If the 9ers didn’t want to have unfair scheduling go against them, then they just should’ve won in week 18.
