This is Benge’s “savant” page for his ~100 AAA ABs (courtesy TJ Stats).
2nd percentile actual wOBA vs a 98th percentile xWOBA is insane bad luck.
He was running a sub .200 BABIP, and had been hit on the wrist that took him out for a bit.
I for one would LOVE an NL ROY race between Benge and McLean: former teammates, roommates, and two way players who specialized in opposite ways and look like total studs. The headlines write themselves.

Plus Syracuse is kinda an awful place to play. Not great baseball weather int he beginning and end of the season. We should have never left Norfolk. lol
Pete hit 260 and only had 67 at bats in AAA before coming to the MLB so can’t always look at this. If the Mets feel he’s ready with whatever other factors/data they look at them let’s see what he can do.
Stearns likes him because he is under team control for 7 years and makes the league minimum…
103 PA but all of his underlying were still very strong. This is a benefit of metrics and a good forecast for a players skills despite lack of concrete results. Over a full season he would not have sustained -.130 from his xwOBA.
Former college roommates tearing it up on a blue and orange new york team? I’ve seen this one before

He got injured like the first few games in AAA genius.
I feel like someone people post and comment without thinking or looking at really anything. Just vibes
Potential talent at a low cost…if he pans out it helps long-term and short term team building based on payroll

The gap is INSANE despite the sample size is 103.
That’s crazy.
Benge got off to a hot start in AAA, got injured, and came back playing poorly. Anyone who’s arguing about his stats didn’t follow or watch him last year.
Jarren Duran is his best comp I feel
AAA rsults not good.
Dude spent 24 games total at AAA. that’s a crazy jump to judgement there.
This team will be so much fun if Benge ends up a 3 WAR corner outfielder, Alvarez stays healthy and cements himself as a top 10 C, and Baty continues his strides last season to be a 3 WAR 3B.
When it comes to Mets position player prospects I am at a point where I’ll believe it when I see it. Over my 20+ years of watching it has pretty much only been Jose Reyes, David Wright and Pete Alonso in terms of being high impact all star caliber players. I suppose you can argue Nimmo/McNeil
Vientos, Alvarez , Baty, Mauricio have had their moments but have all been pretty underwhelming so far. Particularly Alvarez , who I still don’t think has lived up to his hype at all — do people forget this guy was a #1 prospect in all of baseball for a short time?
you can argue that they even traded their strongest recent prospect who has translated best to the majors in PCA
And if you go back further Michael Conforto never panned out and had a lot of hype. Jared Kelenic was obv traded but had a ton of hype and completely faceplanted. You really just never know with prospects.
I don’t want to settle for another good player. I want a great new player developed by this team. I really want Benge to work out but the Mets track record of consistently developing position players that are high impact and eventual all star caliber kinda remains to be seen imo
Who cares about last year’s AAA stats? Small sample size. He’ll turn it around. Tons of potential.
Benge and Williams could spend the next 6+ years in Queens and give us the best OF baseball has seen in a generation.
Or they could both suck.
Time will tell.
The last time we were in the world series we had four home grown and developed pitchers plus parts of the bullpen.
Takes luck and good mentoring but it happens
