[Crory] Bregman would have taken 165$ from Sox if….

  1. It’s just malpractice at this point. Throw all the money at Bichette and we won’t think about how they royally F’d up

  2. Sell the fucking team. Henry isn’t serious and S10 is bang on when they said the passion died with Larry.

  3. I don’t think they actually cared about the no-trade, it’s just a good story to tell the fans, we tried but didn’t actually want to pay the price.

  4. Why would any free agent want to sign with this team? There’s not even a negotiation process, it’s here’s our offer and our terms, take it or leave it. And also if you take it, be prepared to get traded when we don’t want to pay you anymore.

  5. When you’re that close you need to step up and seal the deal. Breslow over played his hand thinking their offer was the best.

  6. Truly embarrassing that a top free agent who fills an obvious hole in your lineup and roster is prepared to take less money to stay and he walks because the team won’t give in on a clause that effectively amounts to “hey don’t fuck me please”.

  7. As in we like you….but not *that* much. Ownership treating FA’s like it’s a fucking privilege to play here in Boston lol. This ain’t like Belichick and Brady in their heyday. Impact players aren’t signing here for cheap money. Henry clearly doesn’t give a shit as long as the money keeps rolling in.

  8. At this point I just think his fans we need to reassess our relationship with this team.

If they don’t care about winning I’m not sure I should really care about them.

  9. Glad Bregman got the smear campaign before the Sox did. Can’t wait to hear what David Ortiz is paid to say about it. I was ok with the deal at first until the deferred payments were made widely known. Now another thing to add that just screams mismanagement.

  10. So basically the redsox offered 165 but after so many deferrals the inflation adjusted number was less enough than the cubs it didn’t make sense for him to sign with the team he preferred to be with. So now they can claim they made an aggressive offer of 165 but for anyone who understands math that just clearly isn’t true

  11. I think we just strung him along at the end so that he signed after their Fenway Fest.

  12. That’s like me not wanting to pay the $30 for an oil change then being surprised my car breaks down.

  13. He wanted to fucking play in Boston and you muppets fucked up! Should be ashamed of yourselves.

  14. What’s crazy is the arrogance they all had at Fenway Fest. Like they submitted the top of market offer and it was now up to Bregman. Such morons

  15. I can’t keep reading this shit man my blood is boiling!!! I just can’t believe they botched this so horrifically. I mean I *can* believe it but it doesn’t make it less baffling!!!

  16. This is what I was worried about. If they had decided that $165 was as high as they were gonna go for a 32 year old third baseman then so be it, but when it’s this little piddly shit it drives me crazy. This obsession with flexibility is so goddam annoying where everyone needs to play multiple positions and they can’t have a no trade because they need roster flexibility and they have to defer x dollars to keep them under the second apron so they have the flexibility to pretend they’re going to make a move at the deadline. Such bullshit.

I don’t particularly like Bichette as a player but I hope they panic and he holds them over a barrel for being short sighted and cheap.

  17. Sox knew that was a deal breaker. Dishonest way to claim they made a legit offer to the fanbase when they never intended on signing him for anything over 3 years.

Sox ownership and front office are serial liars with George III-level contempt for Sox fans

  18. The Yankees may be our biggest rival, but we’ve always been our own worst enemy.

  19. The no-trade being a hold up is so frustrating because it is nearly impossible to conceive of a scenario in which he could sign 5/165 and then be dealt anyway. For one, his contract would be nearly unmovable. The only scenario I could even imagine would be at the trade deadline of year 5 if he’s still productive and the Sox were out of it.

And more importantly, if he signs for 5-years, he would essentially become the captain. They may have even given him the official C on his chest. He’s a full culture-setter and not a guy you even think about trading unless you’re blowing the whole thing up, which in the Crochet and Anthony era would mean everything somehow unexpectedly went to complete shit.

Bregman is just not a dude they would have been able to turn around and deal away. It feels like they were far more interested in “team policy” or setting a precedent than engaging with the actual facts of the situation.

  20. Besides, no trade clauses don’t mean never trade. It just means you have to work with the player if there is a trade scenario to get it waived…if there was a trade scenario in say year 5, Bregman probably would have played ball. And I bet they could have been creative on structuring the no trade as well.

I’m very disappointed the Sox didn’t figure this out.
