Im ngl if we did get ranger Suarez and nico hoerner greatest off-season ever idc about loosing bregman at that point
Why isn't arraez a fit at 2nd
Corbin your being to optimistic. They are not going and signing the guys you mentioned. More than likely they will go after (again) a good pitcher coming off a bad year or coming back from an injury. I wouldn't be surprised if they go resign Giolito as that guy to make there rotation the best (?) In baseball
I think the Sox backed themselves into a corner. They aren't going to spend enough for Tucker or Bo unless it's a pillow contract again. So that just leaves Suarez. Suarez is everything they said they didn't want high K and terrible Defense but he's the only difference maker potential in a bat they could actually land for two years.
On top of that I looked at the next years Free Agents and there are almost no go hitters although there are a number of intriguing pitchers. Which means we will still likely need to trade for a bat at some point unless our youngsters unload and become stars. (Not impossible but I wouldn't want to count on it if I'm Breslow and Henry)
I think the hugely untalked about part of the Sox not landing Bregman because of not offering a no-trade clause is in the 4th year of that deal Bregman would have had a no-trade anyway by the basis of having 10-5 rights (any player who has 10 years of service time and five years with the same club automatically gets a no trade) which is why Arizona wanted to unload Marte before he got his 10-5 rights on the 10th day of the new season. This means the Sox would only need to give him a no-trade for the first three years because he'd get the rest anyway and I doubt that the Sox would want to move him in the first three years it would have been the last two. If you think about this is makes even less sense not to give it to him.
John Henry is the chair of a committee leading the charge for a salary cap in the upcoming CBA.
The deferrals for Bregman were placed where they needed to be to enable the Sox to stay below the second CBT threshold.
Therefore Bichette , Valdez, and Suárez are not going to happen.
If I am the CBO, I am testing what it would take to pry Nico Hoerner away from the Cubs with the full intent of extending him before spring training. He had a career 6 WAR season. He is comfortably a top ten second baseman, arguably top five. He is 28, turning 29 in mid-May. He excellent defensively, a good hitter, but not a lot of power. Also he sounds like a great on field and clubhouse guy.
I am also waiting for Bellinger and Tucker to come off the board and see who is left looking for a centerfield kind of player. Then is when you can get the highest return for Duran. If you can couple him with Bello and get a true SP2, do it.
Then add another high leverage arm for the pen (preferably a lefty).
Not much time to get all of this done.
Red Sox still need a #2 starter, always moreso than a big bat. Valdez fits the bill but the Red Sox won't pay the bill… and the superfans will love them for it.
Dont want Valdez…………………..we already have Chapman. Dont need another guy with history of being a complete idiot. The Sox acting how they are acting and THEN signing questionable characters would be a back breaker for some fans
I think you build a package around early and see if you can get marte.
What gives me hope is the unusual number of players they have who are due to take a leap forward. Anthony, Abreu, Mayer, Rafaela, (I would include Narváez). That’s half your lineup.
Worst take you have ever delivered
This is just an embarrassment for the Henry front office. He is not interested in winning.
I am in agreement with you Corbin. No really good solution for sure. I definitely would not be giving up my solid young pitching talent in the organization. Thats suicide. No way will they sign Bichette. He is going to get a big pay day and it won't be with Boston I don't believe. I think you will shortly hear that he has signed a long term deal with the Phillies. You will notice management has given some of their young players long term deals. This is kinda a small market team now. I am not in favor of sacrificing the future with trading away our great prospects. Their lack of spending on quality free agents has put them into a corner of having to trade to get better or settling for the lesser quality free agents. I would not give into that if I were G.M. I can see a good pitching scenario unfolding which is good but….as you highlighted what are you going to do to score runs??????? Since this is managements stance home grown player development is now a huge priority. I think the fans deserve better than not spending on free agents. Good video Corbin. Joe
I heard on BST from Gasper that Breslow said they were going to stand pat and do nothing more than add depth. Which sounds like them
Cheap sox at their best done as a fan
Play the kids and get s bat for the postseason.
Arenado just got traded to Arizona 😂😂😂 there goes plan D
Your right, Sox are going to field what they have and hope to strike lighting in a bottle then turn around and say we told you so.
This team is going to crap their pants and fight the rays for last place.
They didn't go all in on Bregman. They won't for Bo or anyone else. Whatever happens no one is going to be happy. Probably dump Yoshida too. That's a harsh reality.
We can forget about bo, if they sign him I would be surprised.
Now that Arizona got Arenado, do you think Marte is back on the table?
There is absolutely no way that Boston will go for 10 years and 300 million for Bichette. Especially how badly his defense pans out. If they wouldn't do 6 years for Breggy, why the hell would they do 10 for Bichette. My thought is that they go all in on going after Skubal, here's my offer as I'm a great GM…trade Duran, Yoshida (eating some salary of course) and Bello. I would be perfectly happy with Skubal and a higher value prospect or good draft pick. The Sox can fill in the blanks as far as the pitching goes with their young studs Early and Tolle, and work out the lineup with the youngsters too. I think that Anthony will break out, Abreu is good for mid to upper 20's in homers, and we'd have a damn good outfield defense. The pitching would be the best in baseball. With that kind of pitching, the reliance on power bats lessens and you can go with station to station hitting. Skubal could be locked up easily for 5-6 years at the value he wants and deserves.
Relax Breslow will be making statements soon that they believe having all the best players on the field is the way to go and Rafaela can be a gold glove 2nd baseman. Get ready for Duran in CF and Rafaela at 2nd
3 years of control for Duran would get Hoerner.
Casas, Crawford and maybe Sandoval would get Peralta. Clears up a logjam and completes the roster. Breslow traded for and extended Crochet. He could do the same with these 2 players
any team that offers a player a contract that’s deferred over 10 or so years, isn’t that serious about said player.
Dude I can’t stand Valdez, I don’t care what his era is he’s a cancer in the clubhouse and a 💩 person.
The off seasons have become so painful with the last 2 FO. I am so damn tired of the attitude that they are the smartest people in baseball while looking like the dumbest. I say I don’t care but I know better the problem is I care too much. I know this Breslow had better field a playoff team or he will be unemployed. I also know the financials of baseball have become more important to the Fenway Sports Group than winning ball games.
Unfortunately Suarez is probably going to be the guy lots of home runs with a low batting average and a ton of strikeouts. Bo would be ideal but I don't think any of us think that's going to happen. I wonder if the Arenado trade changes anything probably not because St Louis is paying for most of the contract.
Suarez 3 years 60 mill. DH and backup corner infielder. We were promised a power hitter and hes the perfect fit. Mayer to 3rd. Rafaela 2nd. Duran CF. Romy can play 2nd against LHP Rafaela CF
high level? Well then why not Skenes or Skubal? NEVER gonna happen, talk is cheap.
Ceddanne can handle second, Duran is actually a great CF, he’s better in centre than he is in left. I rather have our 5 outfielders in the batting lineup than having one sit for Campbell or Hamilton. Yoshida can be the DH. I don’t mind this lineup …
1. Anthony LF
2. Story SS
3. Duran CF
4. Contreras 1B
5. Abreu RF
6. Narvaez C
7. Yoshida DH
8. Rafaela 2B
9. Mayer 3B
Duran only made 1 error in CF in 2024. His speed is the same as Rafaela. Rafa gets a better jump. He’s better than Duran but Duran is not that much of a downgrade in CF. I think it’s more important to have all these guys in the lineup everyday.
At this point, I think we’re better off strengthening our rotation by signing one of Valdez or Ranger.
That’s what I would do.
Yeah keep singning starting pitchers lol😅you will have 11 when you only need 5 maybe they can move to second and third base and teach them how to hit they are such a cluster fuck now they really have no plan and any idea what there doing but they are below the luxury cap saving money so ownership is very happy
The Red Socks should sign Yoan Moncada it fits blooms budget, MR CHEAP !
These lames that can't stop glazing. If John Henry pissed on this guy he'd say it was rain. The RS aren't spending in free agency.
And by the way other than crochet there pitching is not the machine you think they are bello is average gray is 36 tolle and early are unproven Octavio is another bullshit project we like his upside Chapman is 38 and who knows he actually might be 40 there delusional and feeding the fan base bullshit
Toronto going all in and not signing Bo gives me red flag vibes. Boston's front office is infuriating. Bo won't be a defensive upgrade at any position and Toronto must know something we don't. No true number 2 starter, no 3B, no power bat, and a crowded OF. All we've been hearing is "big moves coming" "big interest in so and so". I gotta think Crochet may be regretting his extension. He thought wow big market, winning club… Now where are we? Sheesh
Breslow has fallen asleep and he can't get up. So he goes back to sleep until the end of March. He awake up then he says that remaining free agents suck. Breslow go back to sleep until one day after the trade deadline. He yells full throttle next off-season.
Put your what in the table? 10:40
Corbin, y not Story at 2b, Mayer at ss and Rafaella at 3b? Casas at DH, Contreros at 1b.
