My criteria for the grade:

Shedding salary would matter if you care about the DeWitt’s pocketbook or if you’d be spending that money on free agents. We’re not going to be spending that money on free agents, so if we pay the salary and roll the dice on a late round prospect in order to get the deal done, that sounds fine to me.
The important thing is a roster spot and at-bats for the young guys, that’s the real return on this trade
The fans sitting along the 3rd baseline right behind the net are probably safer now.
The thing I saw about Martinez is that he fought his way from D3 ball to being a Big 12 Saturday starter and an 8th round draft pick. That tells me he’s a grinder that will listen to coaches. He’s always had about a 12 K/9 even with that messy delivery, so let’s hope he straightens that out and can be a multi-inning stud reliever.

ESPN said C+ for AZ, and C for the Cardinals. I think that’s pretty fair I don’t think it makes much of an impact.
