What do you guys think shoulds be done about Calvin Ridley ?
January 14, 2026
Obviously he hasn't worked out and outside of that Detroit game I dont really have any good memories of him like at all. What should we do with him or his contract ?

I believe it doesn’t really make sense to cut him this year and when he was healthy he seemed pretty happy with Ward. I would imagine you keep him around and either draft or sign a FA to put Ridley down to the WR2 position and take some pressure off of him when he’s back. Ridley’s a good WR2, below average WR1 that is getting paid WR1 money.
I think he has more dead cap if you cut him this year but it drops if you cut him next year. So keep him around and develop his replacement in the meantime.
Personally I’d be okay cutting him, but I think they’ll keep him around.
Edit: he has a 13 million dead cap hit and 13 million cap savings if you cut him before June 1st. After June 1st it’s 8 million dead cap and 18 million cap savings per over the cap. But cap isn’t a huge deal in the short-term for the Tits so they might as well keep him around.
Bad hands. Injury prone. See ya.
Cut, take the cap savings. Let him go be a WR2 somewhere else and let us focus on the young WRs who contribute.
Personally, id move one look for a possible trade , or cut , im just not a fan , ultimately its up to the New Coach and GM
Forgot he was even on the team
Up to how he fits with the new staff. I would theorerically like to have him around as a talented #2 to take pressure off whoever we draft. Also, if we go edge or DB in the 1st round, itd be tough to go into next season with Doubs or Jennings (via FA) as the only notable addition. If we get Pierce it changes my opinion, but i have a hard time seeing the Colts not being very aggressive to bring him back.
We need talent at WR and he’s the best we have. Keeping him allows us to spend our draft picks elsewhere like taking Bain or Reese or whoever else. He’s happy playing with Ward, he can help our young guys develop, hopefully he works on the drops and next year looks better for our offense
He’s our best WR even if he’s not playing to his contract. Have to hope he bounces back next year.
this is gonna be unpopular here but we need to keep ridley. no im not defending his play. no im not saying he’s worth the money. simply put we have 100M plus in salary cap. if u cut him, u save a few bucks and maybe replace him with someone as good as him when healthy? but u also run the risk of them being worse or less available. also the cap savings is unlikely to effect anything this year or next (freeing an extra 10M that’s not going to be spent does nothing)
let’s give cam some continuity. the receiver room can use a proven vet who can help show guys how to prepare. and worst case scenario it’s another year of him being overpaid and he’s gone after a year
Crazy not to just keep him. You aren’t going to find that depth we desperately need.
Id try restructuring his deal. If we cut him it costs $13m in dead cap. Offer him that upfront and then have him on a incentive laden contract where if he doesn’t play he doesn’t get paid.
The guy is still a good veteran you’d want in a young receiver room, apparently has chemistry with cam, and I think having him means you aren’t as pigeon holed in free agency and the draft. He’s not stopping you investing capital in a receiver but maybe he softens the blow if you don’t get a top tier receiver and just add more mid round guys.
I lean towards keeping him but I am very excited to see what kind of improvement Ayo and Dike can make with an off-season and a new coaching staff. They’ve both flashed a lot this season and I wouldn’t mind evaluating them another year before trying to swing heavy with a first round pick.
So keep Calvin so we have the depth while our WR room is cheap otherwise.
See if you can talk Calvin into taking a pay cut if not release him. The Titans are going to be in the market for a quality veteran reciever anyway.
If they not drafting a wr in the 1st they should keep him and draft Chris bell in the 2 rd…. cant just cut him with no real plan in place fuck that…. now that guys like ayomanor and dike had time to realize their potential some what Ridley is still better than them and helps Ward…his start last yr was an anomaly and he’s normally healthy or was more of a bad break imo
I’d keep him. I think cutting him ensures a $13M dead cap. I think he’s worth more to us than not having him and only opening up $13M in cap space ($26M cap hit). We can cut him after next year and save $22M. Obviously if the titans do decide to go after a big name WR in free agency then yeah cut him to get the money.
✂️
It really depends on how our evaluation of draft talent lines up and who we grab in FA. It really feels like the BPA at our position in the draft is going to be a defensive player, ideally an edge rusher, but maybe even Downs. I think Tate/Tyson are clearly a tier above Ridley as far as potential is concerned, but if we go defensive player in round 1, we’re extremely unlikely to be signing a true WR1 in FA or acquiring one via trade. Would it be that bad of an idea to keep Ridley another season? Heck even with Ridley back I’d love to add another starting quality WR like a Pierce or Doubs.
Chis is likely on his way out, and Helm isn’t the same kind of downfield threat. Ayomanor was inconsistent the same as he was in college – maybe that’s just who he is, or maybe he takes a step, hard to say. Dike is a speed demon and looked better than we expected as a receiver last year, but maybe he’s better utilized in a gadget/restricted role. In that case, we could still use Ridley to soak up some snaps as a true starting WR2 and maybe if we get another WR2 to compliment him, that’s not so bad and worth the money.
Or flip side we decide Tyson or Tate is *the* guy and we go out and get them, maybe we try to bring some new life in via FA with the likes or Doubs/Pierce or whomever. In which case, makes sense to say goodbye.
We could cut him this offseason for a $13M dead cap hit, or cut him in 2027 for a mere $5M cap hit. He’s certainly no foundational piece but are we really getting better than him on the market this offseason? I don’t think it’s so crazy he’ll be back, although I wouldn’t exactly bet the house on him returning
He was awesome his first yr what you mean no good memories the team just sucks as whole…i remember levis under throwing him on what should have been a 6p yd td week 1 against the bears, i remember him destroying sauce gardner and making a miraculous catch on a terribly inderthrown ball by levis, i remember him Torching the lions, i remember him balling despite a trash offense and garbage qb play. I remember a guy who takes his craft serious and works hard
Who?
The titans save 13 million by cutting him this offseason, he will not be on the roster next season.
We need to wait and see after June 1st. Let’s see how the draft plays out.
If they cut Calvin Ridley without receiving any assets back it puts a lot of pressure on the very likely second-round or later WR to pick up the slack of Ridley.
Cut Calvin Ridley very likely ends up near the top of free agent WRs. There are people talking themselves into saying that Pierce is better than Ridley as a WR. He was more available this year for sure but rep-for-rep in a vaccuum Ridley’s the better WR with the better career. It’s also not a sure thing that Pierce hits free agency – it’s more likely that they let Pittman hit free agency.
So who replaces him? I know who replaces him at 300 yards, that can be one of Elic/Dike/new WR but who replaces the 1000 yard version?
Where is the help Cam production coming from? Cutting his most talented WR isn’t the version of “helping Cam Ward” that I had in mind. In my mind, helping Cam Ward looked like either drafting a WR who made Calvin a clear #2 WR (his best role), or signing a couple free agents who can benefit off the attention Ridley gets from the defense.
**There is nobody on our team that has the gravity of Calvin Ridley. Not Dike, not Ayomanor, not Helm, not Restrepo, not Chig. It was painfully obvious the moment he went out.** **Unless we can go find a top 10 NFL WR to replace him, we are only cutting our own hand next season by cutting him.** The 17M in cap space isn’t actually going to help because we aren’t going to use the 125M we already have, anyway.
Anyways, I don’t mind the front office cutting him but they better have a plan. We’re supposed to get better around Cam, not neutral or worse.
Only an $8M cap hit if we cut him after June 1? Boy bye! I’d rather have Ward to continue to develop his chemistry with Duke and Ayomanor who I know will be around beyond next year. Time to move on from one of Ran’s worst decisions.
Move anything for him. Hes not exceptional. Often hurt
Every snap he takes is 1 less snap for a young guy thats shown promise
Cap wise it makes sense to keep him for one more year. He would be an awesome #3 to the #1 and #2 Pierce and Pickens. Time to blow the cap out lol
Keeping Calvin Ridley is the difference between $120 million in cap space vs $140 million, assuming Sneed gets cut. With that much space, I don’t think you ***need*** to cut him to save money. And given the recent narrative shift around this WR draft class, it sounds like we may not be landing a rookie who can come in and be our #1 right away. Plus the free agent WR class is pretty bad as well.
All of this points to us keeping him imo.
If we go out and get Alec Pierce or Romeo Dobbs I think he’s gone because I see us drafting a receiver on the 2nd assuming we go edge at 4. If the top receiver FAs get resigned by their teams then I think we definitely should keep him.
☀️ 🔫
Yes. We should complete move on from Ridley, IMO.
I dont understand why everyone says it hasn’t worked out. He had a very good first year and then started off slow yr 2 (understandable given the situation) and got hurt. To say it hasn’t worked out and the rest of the narratives around him make it sound like hes been awful. Hes been good. Keeping him is far more beneficial to Cam and the offense than cutting or trading him. Trust me, his salary isn’t keeping us from signing someone else in addition to him.
You’re right. I must’ve misread something saying he’s a pending FA.
Honestly – the FA market isnt great at receiver at all, and we have so much cap space i don’t mind keeping him. Keeping him makes it a lot easier to draft and edge in the 1st, and next years receiver class is loaded. Sign an FA and keep him to me, its a 13mil difference to keep vs cut and we have the space so its probably the best option
Wish him well at his next stop.
It seems I’m against the majority here. I think it’s smart to trade him and get what we can. If no one wants him, then drop him. I’d rather get rid of him and take the cap hit than give him 20+ million next season. When he did play, the Titans didn’t look really any better so why pay someone 20 million if they aren’t going to actively make us better? Tbf though, I did not think he was good addition to the team when we got him and he was overpaid. I never exactly had a positive view of him.
I feel like cutting him is actually a ridiculous idea. Ridley is easily the best receiver on the team and if you cut him, you HAVE to either land Pierce in FA for $30m/yr or pigeonhole yourself into picking a WR at 4.
There is zero chance the starting WRs in ’26 can be Ayomanor, Dike, Restrepo. That would just be negligently sabotaging Cam Ward’s development.
Pray we develop our receivers for once without trading them for pennies.
Play out the contract. Might not be elite, but he’s still better than anything we got and he can potentially help the young guys learn some route nuance and help the development of both the wrs and Cam ward. Not like he’s finding another team and making them much better.
Probably keep.Im not sure what they do in the draft. Its harder to get a good edge rusher than it is receivers, and the edge rushers are better in this class than the receivers. At least to my understanding.Like if Jeremiah smith was coming out this year, by all means take him.But there isnt a great receiver prospect in this draft.Theres good prospects, but not great.Tyson is way to much of a injury risk to be risking a pick like that.Tate is really good, but 4 seems really high for him.
32 y/o with that contract and a major injury. Pretty obvious cut to me
