The Nuggets Should NOT Be THIS Good

The Denver Nuggets lost Nikola Jokic to an injury a couple weeks ago but instead of falling in the NBA standings they’ve been climbing behind Jamal Murray’s career year, the arrival of Peyton Watson, and great supporting cast play. It’s been wildly impressive as they maintain pace along with the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves in a loaded conference and look like the best team the franchise has ever had.

  1. As any Nugget fan I am happy that they are holding without Jokic, plus the development of players like Watson is nice addition. But we have to take in to account that Nuggets are struggling against tanking teams in the league, only quality win they had was vs Boston. Also luckily for them they have in this month 4th easiest scheduled. This is showing that Jokic is important for them but there are multitude of people out there taking this as proof that somehow they play worse with Jokic, or that he is preventing them to play better because by them he is a ball hog. Still I have my hopes up for playoffs, this is indeed strongest team Jokic ever had and anything else but not winning would be without excuses, that is bar injuries.

  2. I feel so vindicated!
For the past year and a half I've been claiming that Jokic's ON/OFF numbers look so good because the Nuggets rotations are as bad as Thibodeau's Knicks and people have been calling me context. For context, the Knicks starters would play 65-85% of their minutes with any other starter. Whereas, Every Starter on Denver not named Jokic would play 70-85% of their minutes with Jokic(Jokic's relation would be lower because he played more minutes). It came out of Jokic was on the court, on average 2.5+ other starters were on the court and around 1 would be on the court without Jokic. And everyone always called me stupid and said I didn't understand what I was talking about and that the Nuggets would be the worst team without Jokic, but now here we are with me being right.
And maybe the haters are right and I don't completely understand ON/OFF, but they were equally wrong!

Edit: for clarification, I understand that the Nuggets this year are better than the nuggets last year, but their rotations are still garbage

  3. In the short term, the Nuggets without Jokic should provide their players with opportunities to show what they can do on the floor. So, this could be good for them come playoff time. I would definitely not try to hurry Jokic back too soon, or overwork Jamal to burn him out or injure him before the playoffs.

  4. This is what happens when joker not playing. They can actually have someone play defense and play team ball. It hard to do that when ur center can’t defend a cone and hold on to the ball most of the time. That why his stats are inflated

  5. The Nuggets are the second best team in the Western Conference. The league has been overdue for back to back champs for a long time. OKC gets it done this year.

  6. Sure they aint bad. But meh most of the oppenents were bad or mid. Besides the celtics. So yeah. But hey atleast they are winning winable games.

  7. People thought Denver would fall in to the playin with all the injuries they had surprisingly they have stayed in that 3-4 seed range. And now they are tied with the 2nd seed again.

  8. The Nuggets always had good players but they’ll coaching staff prioritized the starting group and had bad rotations.

Pray another team doesn’t offer Peyton $20mil annually.

  9. as a day 1 pwat glazer, its amazing that he’s grown to be this kind of player. to think he was barely even averaging 3 points at ucla. need my heat to snag him in free agency

  10. This is why the "player X doesn't have any help" is and always BS to me. If you are in the NBA you are a great player and have talent. However when you play with a Jokic, Lebron, or Luka their heliocentric play style limits their teammates' abilities. I have always believed Jokic, Luka, Bron should be doing less offensively and put more effort defensively and their teams would be much better especially in the playoffs. You have to give players more defined roles other than "stand around and wait for JokicBronLuka to pass to you" and defend because they aren't.

  11. Have a question for ya, I’m a Nugs fan so i know how good and influencial Jokić is, tho i see a lot of OKC fans saying that their team relies more on Shai than Denver on Jokić, so i wanna ask you whatcha think bc i don’t know OKC that well to make my own statement and with that comes another question who is the MVP for you. Much love❤

  12. David Adelman for COTY. I watch nearly every Nuggets game and I never expected these performances from these guys. The talent had been there for Watson, but it seems like Jokić and Adelman have really inspired confidence in him and everyone else. I’m so happy to see this.

  13. They've got bad teams or teams that aren't doing well at the moment, and those were tough wins. All of the victories were very close or luckily. It's not time for euphoric, but it's nice to see the second Denver team to win games. This experience will mean a lot to them in playoff matches.

  14. If Jokic was going to get an injury, this was the best possible time. Not only is the deepest Nuggets team we've seen, but they now have a coach who is willing to play that depth and use it in creative ways. Also, Jamal Murray is having the best season of his career. I really think all these guys getting to play without Jokic will only help the Nuggets when they get back.
