St. Louis Cardinals PITCHING Overhaul Transforms Weakness To STRENGTH Under Chaim Bloom

St. Louis Cardinals overhaul their pitching staff, with 16 new arms set to reshape their rotation and bullpen for 2026. Is this the shift that transforms pitching from a weakness into an organizational strength? JD Hafron and Thomas Gauvain break down key additions like Dustin May, Hunter Dobbins, and Richard Fitts, exploring prospects’ upside and veteran reliability.

Discussion highlights recent trades, free agent signings, and the Cardinals’ refreshed minor league depth, raising questions about Opening Day rotation and bullpen battles. The episode also examines potential trade scenarios involving Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan, Boston’s infield crisis, and the impact of team youth. Plus, Cardinals fans get a nostalgic look at top individual seasons since 2000 and insight into what it takes to build a pipeline for sustained success.

  1. With limited viewing time, I would say Dobbins. Before his knee injury he struck out Judge twice in one game and beat the Yankees twice in one week. He has a lot of confidence!! ✨ If Boston offers the best players back, I personally would make the 3rd trade. I have to get the best players back and would not worry what people think. ✨ If they perform well and win people will forget quickly where they came from originally. ✨

  2. Maybe I am just a Homer. But every with a voice is saying how bad the cardinals will be.
    I think they will improve.
The 9 man lineup last year had at least two totally dead spots. Walker and Gorman, and to a lesser extent, Scott. Getting Saggese more at bats, Getting Herrera a full season. Losing Contreras hurt, but Burley is not a drop off. Wetherholt at third will likely improve offense there, and not too much drop off on defense.
Two monster holes in the starting rotation last year.
Fedde was so bad they did not let him keep pitching. MIkolas not much better.
I look for solid seasons from McGreevy and Libetatore. If Leahy gets in the rotation he will be solid. If he does not get into the rotation, it means somebody else is pitching better.
Dustin may at one point was about to be a front of rotation starter. If healthy he will be solid. Then another 4 or five starting pitchers to choose from.
I look for 89 wins next year.

  3. Our pitching staff for 2026 still looks worse than 2025 to me (compared to before Mo dumped those guys at the trade deadline). We had some quality relief pitchers last year, but that's not true for this group in 2026. Too many guys with ERA's around 5 are being brought in by Bloom (on cheap contracts). Plus, even though not a true #1 ace starting pitcher, Gray was better than the rest of the staff we had, and nothing better than him has been added for 2026.

  4. wELL yOU MISSED THE lEAD story, Arenado is gone and STL eats 40 million on him, 22 million on Gray and eight on Cartreras. No pitchers excitement me but I'm happy with May. No longer is STL a stabile organization.

  5. Man, when I heard about Bregman going to the Cubs I groaned out loud and said "Shit!" 😂 I thought he was in a perfectly good place in Boston, the LAST place I wanted him was the NL Central, let alone the Cubs. Who knew they'd finally put on their big-boy pants and spend like the big market team that they are.
