Calling it an “era” is a gross overstatement lmao but man. I remember the mental gymnastics I was doing trying to convince myself the Fortnite custom suit wasn’t a massive red flag.
He turned a first round pick into Josh Hart.
Still a coup, but the pick was the valuable piece in this move. Not Knox.
Fun fact: Cam Reddish was the 1st round pick the Hawks got from the Mavs in the Trae/Luka trade.

He didn’t, it was two first round picks to get Hart: one outgoing with Knox, another outgoing with Reddish. In both cases, it was the picks that had value, not the players.
You can turn anyone into anything if you add enough first round picks.
You aren’t a real Knicks fan if you didn’t watch Kevin Knox in the summer league and think to yourself that the Knicks found their franchise centerpiece.
The last time we had a lottery pick turn into a good player was 1985. Since then, all of them are busts.

Knox was the salary filler. The trade was the 2022 first. Which was a top-18 protected Hornets pick that was never going to convey. Which the Knicks traded their 2021 pick, unprotected, to receive.
So it wasn’t Knox for reddish and then reddish for hart. It was an unprotected 2021 for a heavily protected 2022 (bad trade) then that 2022 for reddish (meh trade) then reddish for Hart (excellent trade).
The ends justify the means here, but I’m not sure there is a single team in the NBA that would trade away an unprotected first round pick for Josh Hart right now.
