He was committed to Vanderbilt before being drafted 7th overall by the Padres.
He’s still only 26. If the Yankees can find a way to keep him healthy, the potential is absolutely there.

Weren’t we all?
Every single MLB player in history was elite in high school
LOL, Uncle Rico?
There’s reasons to be optimistic because he throws hard. Just throw strikes and trust your run support and good things generally happen.
Did he have the makings of a varsity athlete?
Judging from the thumbnail we’re calling San Diego highschool now?
My ex-wife told me I was elite in high school as I was getting served.
Idgaf if he was elite in high school, is he elite now? What does this dude have that’s so special that we traded four prospects for this guy? I’m not saying I don’t like the trade, I’m just trying to understand it
So was I yet here I am on reddit. HS is a billion miles away from MLB
Talent was never the issue, it’s staying healthy that is
People remember Mike King was a random cheap trade. I trust the Yankees pitching pab
I want to find the guy that managed to drive in the one run against him
I was too. Can I play SS?
I was elite in high school… and now I shit post on Reddit looooool
I don’t know about the high school specifically but the town Loretto, TN has a population of 1700. Maybe the school is an expanded area but even if so, it’s likely very low level high school ball. A future MLB player should absolutely dominate that level to this extent.
Oh wow, the professional basebawl pwaya was ewite in high school? Shouldn’t you be trying to sign Tucker rn Cashman?
I trust Matt Blake to do some voodoo magic with him lol
Really? Whats next, [insert new signing here] was excellent in little league?
This is cringe. You got the guy, no need to do mental gymnastic on why it’s good thing. You will see when the season starts.
