In this episode, I explain how Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors were outplayed by the bench, an ultra-rare look for a team that has historically relied so heavily on Curry over the years. Gui Santos continues to prove he is an indispensable 6th man, while De’Anthony Melton is proving himself to be the most reliable scorer off the bench while also providing the much-needed POA, and Al Horford is rounding into form.

  1. It's clearer than ever – Gui Santos is and has become one of the most indispensable players for the Warriors. Nothing for this team truly operates without his connectivity at PF throughout the game, and especially to avoid useless 4G lineups next to Draymond at all costs. You can even argue he's been more consistent all around than the current version of Draymond. Melton is right behind Santos in importance.

  2. You are THE expert on breaking down the Warriors. The only person that really tells it like it is, and we can see it with our own eyes by watching the games. I watch the Warriors (when I can stomach it) with new eyes, I can see when magically a line up you've begged for is on the floor and the positive results, as you said over and over again. On point with Podz, he isn't so bad, but he should never start and he should never close. I watch him almost every play on defense get beat on that first step, he loses his man, tries to swipe the ball from behind, the person guarding the corner has to come help leaving a sharp shooter open for a free 3 shot. If I see it, ya think the opposing teams see it? Oh yeah, they can't wait, and when those 3 daggers hit you with no time left, an absolute killer. Less minutes he stays, the same insane Kerr induced minutes, he has to go. I have to say, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep him and Hield and trade Melton and Santos, that's how they roll.

  3. Lets gooo, so nice to see these guys coming through, especially Melton, I love a good comeback story. And Gui rode the bench for so long and never lost heart! However…. if Gui Santos is great , QP is great and Melton is great, then we have a problem coming next offseason. There will be no cap space to keep all 3 of them if they are this good. Some of them might get snatched up by the market.

  4. Unbelievable indictment of Kerr that even missing players, teams think they can isolate Steph and the rest of their team can’t get coached through it.

  5. I am more of a Curry fan than a GSW fan so I am pretty quiet since Curry did not do much this game. Instead let us talk about Jim's Video
Defense around Podz and Melton…. this is such a good point, this is true, Butler and Curry are stars so whether you have a great defense around them or not, they will score, steal, rebound. They will do it more effective with a strong defense but they do not need a defense to make an impact and contribute unlike these non-star players.
Santos helps Curry…. these are the plays I love when the big does not act like their responsibility is one player to mark but instead looks for the holes to fill like smaller Curry going to be exploited. It makes it so unpredictable for the other team to know what to do because they have in their head they only have to get by Curry. Santos is just 5 stars there.
Actually the bigs on the team are incredible all of them and of course if you are a big and you play on Kerr team, you have to be twice as good as another big on another teams for Kerr to even consider even playing you.
Curry as a decoy and distraction…. As Jim was talking about this, I realise something. Funny enough all of this Curry as a decoy strategy does not really count for much. Think about it when they reach in the playoffs Curry starts to try to score more and becomes less of a decoy. Kind of makes this decoy strategy of playing before the playoffs a waste of time because they are not going to follow it as strongly when playoffs start.
Consistent scoring… still inconsistent, it is always different players with Steph and Butler being constants.
Michael Porter… Here is my thoughts, I still do not know what I want from the trade. The smart money is on a wing that can also score or a center that can spread the floor with three point shots. I am thinking no to trading for a center because you got some really good centers now and while any great center or wing would improve the game, what do they really need rather than what do they need to improve.
My thought is GSW needs something different than what everyone is looking at, they need a guy who can play off Steph and minimise his load like Poole or Klay did. Let me explain why this is important. Simple we could have gone far in the last playoffs but Curry had to run a lot and went down. Who is to say these coaches are not going to target Curry like that again this playoff and then… down goes GSW. A center or wing would not do that for us and take the load off Curry.
Defense in Playoffs…. if no one told you I am telling you, defense in playoffs games are different. It is on steroids, the teams contest everything that they do not in regular season. Curry starts to move faster and puts a heavier load on himself against these defenses is not a great thing if we want to maintain him as health. Guy like Podz who do not consistently score in every game looks even worse when a 5 star defense is mounted against him in an intense playoff game. What position and who do we really need? not sure yet.
Michael Porter… I believe there were a couple of games for the Nuggets when Porter went missing. Not sure yet who GSW need. Hard to replace Prime Klay and yes prime klay fits the bill but he is not available.
Add… I wanted to add Anthony David… oh no please just throw the money out on the street and give it to Charity. Does not matter what he can do, it is about maintaining a winning team when Playoffs come and he certainly will not last. Actually a bit concerned if Milton will last when we reach playoffs.

  6. The warriors benefited from a cold-shooting Blazers team in the first half. To demonstrate how small the Warriors were at times, you only have to look at who was at the inside rebounding position when the Blazers were shooting free-throws! I'm not saying the Porter wouldn't help the team, but he is not a connector like Santos is. He looks for his shot and rebounds okay but does not make the players around him better. Also, he is not a guard. Would Kerr even give him meaningful minutes!

  7. I will say, I do love the Steph and Jimmy role of being like the commander of offense when either player is on the bench resting. Having players that have the flexibility to play with either unit like Gui and Horford is insane. Players that can do their role and succeed on both ends with either units should always have minimum 15-20 minutes. Hopefully that slug, Steve Kerr, will stick with giving Gui +20 minutes a game from now on and stop running too many guards.

  8. That bounce pass from Santos to Melton on the three point line, leading him to the right spot and hitting him on the up, in rhythm, was simple, but a thing of beauty. Gui's point guard roots really showing in this game.

  9. Yes, Warriors players can contribute double digits on any given night but Steve Kerr you must play the players who are producing on any given night and bench those who aren’t. Hello?

  10. 4 players taking away valuable minutes Podz, Buddy, Moses and Jk. Those minutes can go to Santos, Trayce, Richards and Post. Add Mpj i believe Warrior's can win it this year!! If Stevie changes his small ball rotations!! Gp2 is looking solid again. Melton is so dam crafty and great defender. Horford is looking better. Post needs more minutes still. Can't wait to see Buddy Bricks go. Jk good riddens, too immature! If we trade 3 or 4 players but only get 1 player in return how does that work? Do we bring up g-league players or will we still have enough players? Lj Cryer is a stud!

  11. Curry has been carrying these scrubs; it’s nice when impactful contributions from others manifest
Remember in the Finals against Boston, one game steph went 0-9 or 1-9 on 3’s and we still won that game

  12. Great analysis. I hope Jimmy Buckets makes it to the hall of fame someday. He is the definition of cool and efficient.

I think that Dunleavy, Lacob and Kerr have been messing with us. My suspicion is that The Warriors are about to unveil a blockbuster trade that will shock the fan base and rock the NBA world. All along, they've been stealth-like in creating a red herring that diverts us from their real plan of action.

If I'm correct, they will have pulled off an incredible heist and set the organization up for another championship run. Ready:

Sabonis to the Warriors for Green, Hield, and Moody. A couple tweaks might be needed to completely align the salaries. Once it happens, the new Warriors lineup will be (once Sabonis heals): Curry, Melton, Sabonis, JK, and Butler. BAMMMMMMMMNNMMMMM!!!

  13. I wonder if somebody on staff has a Jim Park app on his phone in order to correct Kerr by hitting him on the head. We regularly saw the tiny 3-4 small player lineups popping up, but just in time at least a big or Gui was subbed in to mitigate the Kerr fevers…

  14. I'd say this was a good win solely for the standings. The Blazers are right behind the Dubs at the 9th seed. Melton literally clears Podz in every fathomable way, so now that shots are falling, Kerr should stop treating Podz like the #3 option. Also, stop playing that pylon next to Steph. Buddy and Podz = free runs for other teams. Clear proof that hustle/heart just isn't enough to win in the NBA. Time to throw a bundle of guards in the trash.

  15. Been saying this about Joe Lacob for what seems like years. It ain’t rocket science. What it is is shameful. Let’s not forget Post too. The fricking owner needs to do you know what or get up the darn pot Booooooo.

  16. Gui ‘glue guy’ Santos! I had a good laugh seeing Post and TJD in together at the end. The beginning of the third was awful but glad they got the win!

  17. Happy to see Kerr acknowledge how great Gui has been, makes me more confident he’ll get more mins consistently

Now we just need to trade Kuminga, Hield and Moody for MPJ and we’re set!

  18. Gui Santos and Melton are the modern Iguodala and Livingston. High IQ glue guys and do the intangibles. QP is developing to a rim protector like Andrew Bogut, with added shooting. Hopefully the front office can trade MPJ for JK, Hield and either Moody or Podz. We lack a lengthy and versatile wing that can space the floor, rebound and defend bigs and guards.I like Will Richards better as the starting SG over Moody. Moody is inconsistent. Will Richards can knock those open 3s consistently and affect the game with his high IQ plays.

  19. Bro if gui, melt, post, tjd is not returning next year but buddy and jk is. Imma riot. KERR DO NOT STOP PLAYING GUI WE AIN'T GOT OTHER FORWARDS ANYWAYS SO HE BETTER STOP THE BS 3-4 GUARD LINE UPS. Imma be real tho i don't want a 40 mill mpj as a 3rd option while we still have dray and jimmys contracts. Just get wings and forwards no need for a 40 mill mpj.
