Q&A: President Keith Jones on the Flyers’ timeline, playoff hopes, and Matvei Michkov’s development

Jones goal is to be a regular playoff team and that would be good enough to be considered a contender in his eyes
> If you’re a consistent playoff team, you’re a contender in my eyes.
This answer perfectly sums up both their rebuild philosophy and why it’s wrong.
Stings a little that the team is signaling the rebuild is over and they’re walking away with Michkov, Martone, Drysdale and Luchanko. How much more exciting would Gauthier and Buium be over the last two?
Also feels like they used a lot of draft capital in 2025’s late firsts and seconds on guys who have bottom 6 ceilings. No swing for the fences there. What kind of NHL talent could you obtain with two firsts and four seconds on the trade market?
I was wondering what Jonesy was up to. So they just wheel him out when the fan base get’s angsty/there’s some negative press? Can’t we at least have him back on the broadcast in the meantime?
We are so cooked
Can someone post an honest summarization of this? I’m not paying for one article that already sounds dismal
If Vancouver is open to trading Peterson, for the love of god go get him
51 years and counting. But, yeah, just making it’s good enough.
Flyers philosophy has been always “get into the playoffs and anything can happen.” Which is basically like saying “we’re running on hopes and dreams.” The organization will never do a full tear down and rebuild because they don’t want to be similar to the Penguins or teams who have tanked for top end talent. I used to respect that approach, but it’s been nearly 50 years since the last cup. It’s time for a major change in philosophy.
>Oliver Bonk has started to get into form now with the American League team in Lehigh, and it’s been fun to see that team have some success as well.
>Alex Bump continues to push and develop … And then we have Jack Berglund, [we’ve been] watching him perform extremely well, which we expected at the World Junior tournament. He’s the captain of Team Sweden, and he’s producing at a high rate. That’s really exciting for us. With his size, he has the ability to play in front of the opposition’s net, so he’s very good on the power play in that regard. So, as you build a team, you’re looking for pieces that can take over roles that you feel are necessary in order for you to advance. And he’s one of those guys.
Lmao none of these guys are anywhere near the level to fix the teams holes and get them to the next level.
>Are there any areas you want to improve on with the roster? A: As it jumps out to me right now, there’s nothing immediately. We’re always looking to get better. If something’s there, we’re going to do it to get better.
Surely Jones doesnt think our C and D group is remotely good enough???
I’ve followed this team since 1994. This is easily the most frustrated I’ve been with the team and organization. Given the last decade plus and how theyve done, that’s saying a lot…
The Michkov situation needs to be actually addressed. I’m fine with him not producing this year, but the way the coach talks about him is insane. Say what you want but we all know Toch bitches about the kid to the Chiclets crew. I have never hated a coach as much as I hate Tochett coaching this team.
Keeping Coots and TK has been a mistake. The team needed a reset but instead we have those two in “I’m getting old so we need to win now” mode while simultaneously not allowing Michkov to figure his shit out because any mistake he makes is a death sentence. The kid just needs to play. His skill and competitiveness are enough for him to straighten himself out. It’ll be painful but at least we’d be in an era where losing is expected.
Danny or Jonsey if youre bored and somehow getting this message… You’re playing with fire here. Tochett has been a mistake. It’s like you want to embrace the new and old NHL at the same time. You cant have your cake and eat it too. Coach needs to be reprimanded or fired. I don’t care that he was just hired either, the future of the franchise is in his hands.
