10 years is a lot but even considering that he’ll be much worse by the end of it, I think it could still be entertaining to see him climb franchise leaderboards the way vladdy will. Thats part of the reason I was hoping Bo would stay, but if Tucker is here for that long then he can be a legend

If this is true, he’s absolutely using the Mets offer to try and squeeze a few more dollars out of the Jays. No one in their right mind is passing on a 10 year contract for a 3 year one.

Remember jays are paying tax so longer deal with lower aav actually reduces the cost a bit year to year compared to 8/320.

I think the other big thing is, he’s having a baby, and this will take them until his kid is 10, which offers a lot of stability for him and the fam. Toronto apparently has an amazing WAG community too for his partner and kiddo.

If this is true, this suggests that the ownership and FO views the Jays to be in a win-now window of contention. Both the Vladdy and Tucker contracts will be difficult in the last few years, but given the amount of money already committed it looks like the Jays see the next few years as their best chance to win a championship. These are exciting times!

The 10 years is all about making the most of Vladdy’s prime window, which is arguably the next 7-8 years. I’m sure their smart people have already done the math and revenue-costs projections. Jays are probably hoping for some of that Okamoto interest from Japan to turn into $$$.
He may not be good for 10 years, 5 year high AAV is a better contract for the Jays. I also feel he hasn’t really proven he’s that good in playoff like Bo did. It’s a hard decision for either side I think.
This has to be the response to the 4th year to the Mets, I’d bet thats what that was all about, getting us to move higher than 6 years, so maybe it’s not 10, maybe it’s 8 or 9, but the 4th year at 200 was a “hey, move up a year or two, or id be stupid to not take 50 million a year for 4 years.”
