Lions Are Closing In On A MASSIVE Coaching Steal
The Detroit Lions appear to be poised to make an absolutely massive hire. The Lions need an OC and it looks like one is on the way. This would be perfect for both the coach and the Lions. All of this is great news for the Detroit Lions.

I really enjoy your coverage of the Lions. Both of you do a fantastic job!
This guy is ready to hit the ground running, the Lions need an experienced OC
Boiled down to it's essence, you're saying, look at this from McDaniels' perspective. After Miami, he needs to, somewhat, rehabilitate himself. With the Lions offensive weapons the Lions will provide him the perfect opportunity to showcase what he brings to the table. For example, he comes to the Lions and under his direction the Lions set the NFL on fire. Then, McDaniels argument will be this, "if I can build an offense and defense from the ground up and put my stamp on a team, as the 'head coach' this is what I WILL do for your team." So coming to the Lions offers McDaniels the perfect situation he needs for his coaching career. He can just focus on perfecting an offense that is already "locked and loaded."
DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SIGN HIM IF HE DONT take a head coach job
Atlanta also an option
This would be a huge boon for the Lions. He likes to run the ball and is great at utilizing downfield weapons. Best fit imo.
I dont believe that getting a great OC will fix the lions problems. The lions needs to fix the OL. Need a center, lineman. If Decker retires then we are looking at needed 3 players to replace on the OL
As long as it's an experienced NFL playcaller
IF McDaniels is our guy Shela needs to breakout the checkbook and make it happen
MM should be the prime OC choice than any other candidates the rewards for MM the choice of a better HC opportunity in 27 or 28. Taking the same projectorly as Ben Johnson did to land a better HC opportunity for two years or more. For Lions one to two years opportunity for a SB win.
I'm certainly behind you guys on this hire. My worry is that the Eagles may get him. Let's hope we can get him. As somebody from Woodward Sports Talk said, we won't get him because when was the last time you saw the Lions have something like this fall in their lap?
Saturday morning inspection on a Thursday?
The Lions problem is the garbage defense and their 'over his head' D coordinator.
As a Lions fan I don’t want someone who is only going to spend one year and we have to do this all over again in 2027. Also if he stays two years and leaves we get two compensatory third round picks
Raves would be his best pick but I hope Detroit is his choice
Mike McDaniel’s play calling would work great with our talent once we fix oline. Plus I think he will love the fact he can roll the dice a bit.
Dolphins fan here- Mile would be back in his element. He was a great OC in SF but took the head coaching position in Miami before he was ready. He would be smart to join Dan Campbell’s staff and learn from one of the best right now. I liked Mike, he was quirky but as an engineer I got him. He had too much on his plate between being HC and developing an offense. I’m still mad that my team passed on Dan and hired Adam Gase about a decade ago. We would look a lot different if that had happened.
The Lions healthy defensive front 7 gave up 550 rushing yards in 3 GAMES. Their corners are terrible, Arnold is a bust, their all pro safeties have both now suffered career altering injuries, Anzalone is gone. They need a minimum of 3 pieces on the o line. This entire team is not even close. 2026 and probably '27 should be viewed as building gap years
The lions head office especially Holmes, must fix the O-line…. Center, LT or RT if they move Sewell to his natural position when not if, Decker retires.
Fix the O-line and a good OC will have a much better chance of success.
