Stats on Petey.
Reminder, he's doing all of this without his Speed Burst being where it was at his peak.
He's doing this without Hughes.
He's doing this without other 1st line talent.
But we're still hearing certain media members (cough 650, cough…) still trying to trade him.
The same media members who thought that they traded the wrong player after the Miller trade.
Drury just put out letter to NY Rangers fans saying they're going to "Retool… not Rebuild."
That trade sure worked out for them.

Good to see numbers bearing out what I’ve seen with my eyes on the ice: he looks great, he’s just got no one around him.
What’s the sample size for the current stats?
Not hating, just wondering.
Should be a sick haul for him then right?
I would love to keep petey if he wants to stay. But I’m also open to him getting a change of scenery and pushing all the annoying Vancouver media and fans to their limit by finding success else where.
I just like to cheer for hockey team man.
If he really wants to stay, I really think we should keep him. I really think it’d be something to see if Stenberg/McKenna on his wing.
Get him some actual wingers that can finish and can make plays to open up space for him then. Doesn’t make sense to trade him so that we MIGHT get a player that can replace him.
GIVE THIS MAN 1OA TALENT
I’m not a huge Petey supporter or anything (his skating is really tough to watch and I think that’s why he’s likely never going to dominate in the league again… just his stride and edgework have to be some of the worst in league for his position).
But…. The way he’s been deployed this season is pretty sketchy work by the coaching staff. Gets a tonne of d-zone starts… not too much 5v5 time for a “top line” centre… no kidding he’s not producing at a higher clip.
Clearly need to play David Kampf more minutes
Perfect example of how stats don’t tell the whole story.
For what period?
If he gets a haul as big as Hughes, we’d be stupid not to take it, but that isn’t happening. There is simply no sound reason to sell low on him now, at this point in his career and at where we are in a rebuild.
Keep him as we currently have very little options in centre, and if he gets better, we have a better problem to deal with.
At this point he can only get better with better linemates, or better with less injuries, or better on a different team, but the latter makes us sell low on him… something we can’t afford to do right now.
those media members are right to trying to trade him. he has value again, get rid of him and not do another Boeser, where we try to sell him everytime his value is low.
I like how the last slide is just him smiling at me like *“how could you be mad at petey?”*
EP40 should stay. There was a time when I wanted him traded for a fresh start, but since the Necas ship sailed, I think it’s best we keep him.
His last 20 games have been trending up. And he’s playing with a lot more confidence with a lack of talent on the wings. If we get McKenna or Stenberg, I am confident his point totals will go up. Defensively, he’s already very good.
The problem is everyone is offering 50 cents to the dollar. We lose any trade with EP40 and I do think he will have an Eichel resurgence.
But most importantly, all signs point to him wanted to remain a Canuck. And in this day and age, that needs to account for something. You guys want players who want to be Canucks, don’t you?
I’m pro trade Petey not because I hate him or question his production. It’s simply because we will be wasting peak Petey talent on a rebuild team. It’s the practical thing to do to trade him to a contender. Give Petey a chance to get a kick at the can.
Hello Canucks fans! I Maybe not everyone here wants a trade, but Petterson was listed on the TSN trade bait list. Asking as Habs fan, what do you think a realistic/fair trade would look like between our teams?
To me, one important factor would be salary retention. I think many of you are aware of our NHL guys, but I’ll list a couple of them and some of our other prospects that are looking the most promising, but feel free to suggest others!

-David Reinbacher
-Michael Hage
-Jayden Struble
-Alexander Zharovsky
-Owen Beck
-Bryce Pickford
His 5v5 deployment has been frustrating. He’s your 1C, why isn’t he getting extra shifts in the third while down a goal? Against Ottawa, which was a 1 goal game after he scored in the third, he played 15:28, less than Kane and a minute more than Hoglander. Sure it was a B2B, but he played 16:41 against Montreal where he also scored.
Other teams know how to defend his line: focus on him. So now he has no room to shoot and can only pass to a linemate who won’t score.
Given the length of his contract, the immense difficulty to trade it, the likelihood of getting a limited return if we did, and the age of the player EP40 is basically at the top of my “veterans to keep” list.
In the final seasons of his current contract there is credible reason to believe he is still very much a 1C or 2C and would presumably be surrounded by multiple talented young wingers entering their primes. If that happens, we’ll be relieved to have held onto him (by choice or not).
By all means, if a team comes thru with an offer and massively accelerates the rebuild, take it, but that feels like a total pipe dream and like this player has way more value on the roster than off of it for the foreseeable future.
forwards with equal goals/60 just on the team – Karlsson, Sasson
forwards with higher HDCF/60 – Karlsson, Garland
forwards with higher SCF/60 – Karlsson, Garland
just sayin
This guy is the only center who never played with a true 1st line talent on his wings
At this point I want Petey traded if for no other reason than just so this horrible, annoying pissing match over him and all the cherry-picking stats to make him look good can finally end and some other fanbase can quibble over him.
His linemates have something like 5 goals in a combined 50 games in the last month or so.
Our window closed so I want players to perform well enough to get value when traded, but poor enough so the team keeps losing.
While I’m not a Petey fan, I certainly don’t wish ill upon him, I do think both him and the city need a reset. He’s just a quick scapegoat or news piece for the media to dump on. Too many eggshells.
> He’s doing this without Hughes.
Quinn did play 26 games for us this season… lol
Playing with Quinn he actually had a 19.37 HDCF/60 (over 167mins together), and then away from Quinn 9.25/60, so Quinn is definitely contributing to these stats lol.
I certainly understand the logic behind trading EP40 when/if his value around the league has resuscitated and another team is willing to trade a haul for him. You hypothetically get all these assets back and get out from a massive contract commitment.
Where I think radio hosts and fans go wrong in thinking he definitely will be or has to be traded is they’re ignoring the “2-3 year rebuild” line that Rutherford has said. Imo, there’s no world in which you plan to execute a 2-3 year rebuild that includes trading EP40. This team completes a rebuild in only 2-3 years if a lot of things go right and one of those things is EP40 gets back to being an elite 1C not just in underlying stats but also production.
I have loved Petey since the beginning. I have been following him since his SHL days … It’s a shame he hasn’t had a good line mate since Kuzmenko (maybe lotto line but that was all 3)
I’d like to keep him but if he gets traded I hope the Canucks look to grab a 1st rounder for next year’s draft too. I mean, really plan long term here.
Although we’ll land a great player this upcoming draft it doesn’t look like there’s a bonafide franchise player to be had. What this team needs is to have a chance at grabbing the next “generational” player. That term gets thrown around too much hence the quotation marks, but you know what I mean.
And buy Canadian for once. We traded away Horvat and look what happened. You also need Canadian players because maybe they’ll actually want to stay here long term instead of bolting to the US. I still can’t believe how long McDavid has played for Edmonton. We need to find high end talent who loves to play for the most hardcore fans.
But as for keeping Petey, I think he’s a good guy to have around for a rebuild. He’s good-natured and he’ll break more Canucks records which will be fun to watch. Only trade him if there’s an offer we can’t refuse.
All while dealing with losing a kid.
As Drance puts it, you shouldn’t have to squint to see if he’s ‘back’ or not. I also agree with his assessment of Petey as basically Paul Stastny now.
Meanwhile he was dealing with injuries and losing his child. Yet people still hate on him over the tiniest things. Losing a child doesn’t just take a couple days to get over, so I really hope Petey and his wife have a lot of support.
people saying its a result of ice time, have you considered he is injury limited to that ice time?
He needs a guy who isn’t afraid to shot the puck from anywhere and plays with speed. They also need high IQ on the ice. Not saying boeser or debrusk isn’t high IQ they just want the perfect shot. Chief kief just rips it from anywhere.
Petey seems to have been shooting it more too but he still wants the perfect shot. I think karlsson is good on his wing. Big and wins board battles and is a great back board like Chiasson. Like if we get Mckenna as a first liner and then lekker as a second liner.
I mean the reduced ice time could be the result of them trying to mitigate the nagging injury. That being said Petey definitely has passed the eye test this season. I am anticipating a great Olympics for him.
