Caratini is a solid bat for the position. Average. Which is totally fine
But…we traded for Jackson and gave him 1.35 million in arb.
Jeffers is in his final year…and this is a 2 year deal for a comparable – if older – player. I fear people might get upset by what comes next. To me, when we dont seem to be a competitive team for 2026, it doesnt really make sense to carry 2 comparable catchers that could feasibly start.
Jeffers wont be here next year. To me, it makes sense to trade now, maximise his value whilst protecting us for 2027 (if that season happens) by having a legitimate catcher in place.
One concern i do have, is none of the additions so far this offseason match the words spoken by Falvey and Shelton which were: more speed, more athleticism, better defence
On an island, i like this move. But to me it does raise more questions – especially in regard to the reliever market, and what money we have in play. This move pushes us to $103m. We still need multiple relievers
