[Wolfond] forking over $60m a year to a guy who’s never even cleared 5 war in a season is pretty wild, but i guess a team will do desperate things after having the fear of god put in them by ernie clement & addison barger

Show me the lie.

I like this take the most
BamBam everyday in right, Ernie everyday at third. No need for any tuckers here
I am still in ~~under~~ utter disbelief that he got $60 M AAV.
Might be the most shocking contract in baseball history, well at least in my lifetime.
Well said. Head up high, Blue Jays.
Id rather watch Clement and Barger any day
Feels like a desperate attempt to thwart their feared rivals of who would be able to dethrone them. Ie the Jays.
I think it’s because the Jays were in on him big, dodgers had to go over the top otherwise they could have just matched the Mets offer and say we are LA.
Hot take Barger will have more WAR over next 4 years than Tucker
I agree. I don’t understand why this guy is considered such a huge superstar. His numbers aren’t that amazing. He’s not in the league of Judge or Ohtani.
Their sub still hates Ernie for having fun playing a game
Listen I’ll shit on the contract as much as the next guy, but having said that.
It was dumb when Yankee fans said it yesterday when we were the favourites and it’s dumb now to describe a guy with *three 4.9 WAR seasons* as “never even cleared 5 WAR”. That’s about as disingenuous as it’s possible to be.
So, if you are Bellinger, what does this make you think about your own contract?
Barger everyday RF anyway and will improve even more.
Look, the Dodgers *barely* beat the Jays. Any random weird fluke thing goes in the Jays’ favour and they win the World Series. The Dodgers got worried. Legitimately. And the Jays are still a very good team. Bring it on.
100 Superstars vs 1 Rochesterian
I get it, but its also wrong. Baseball Reference says that Tucker had a few seasons of 5+ WAR when he was with Houston.
this makes me feel a bit better.
I hope every single one of the Dodgers players underperforms next year causing all their bandwagon fans to hop off the bandwagon and they take such an incredible financial loss it bankrupts the team due to their salary
You mean single post season hits leader Ernie Clement?
No, you can’t forget the luxury tax on this contract. It’s closer to $120 million aav
The whiplash of this fanbase going from “pay anything for Tucker, it’s not my money” to “it’s too much money, thank god we didn’t get him” to “pay Bo whatever he wants” is better than any ride at Canada’s Wonderland.
This is just sour grapes. Money clearly means nothing to the Dodgers now and a lot of people are downplaying how good Tucker actually is.
I still think Tony taters will bounce back.
The Blue Jays will stick to their valuation of Bo. If he wants long term, would player options on final 2 seasons based on AB’s be a dealbreaker? Nimmala and Parker aren’t expected to be MLBers until 2028/29.
Best take on the Tucker signing i’ve seen.
And the free agent class going forward for a few years is shit
Its not about getting the player they wanted… its about keeping your rival from getting the player they wanted.
Well, if you’re a team with seemingly unlimited money, then I guess it’s not a big deal. For every other team in the league, this would be a bad contract.
So I guess I’m fine with not matching.
I always preferred Bo, simply for the sentimental factor. Maybe we can make that happen. But sadly it seems we don’t even really have a place for him anymore. Sigh
Whatever. I still think our team is better than last yr. But it’ll be sad to see Bo in another uniform.
Terrible deal, glad it’s not us. Hopefully, we can pivot and get Bo back, but I kind of doubt it
I looked at his numbers for last season, 22 dingers, 73 RBIs, 266 BA, 841 OPS and that’s worth 60 million/year?
That’s nuts!
Just bring back Bo and I’ll be thrilled with our offseason.
The Dodgers stars are getting old. Shohei is 32. Mookie is 33. Freddie is 36. Mookie and Freddie are declining. Shohei is at an age where he might start declining within 2-3 years. So yes 240 million is a huge overpay, but if there is a right situation for an overpay, this is it. Guggenheim group is worth over 350 billion. This Tucker deal is the Dodgers ownership recognizing a closing window and going all in. It’s a bad contract for 29 teams but it is honestly the right move for the Dodgers.

This is the guy who spooked the LA dodgers btw.

Yes, this is my brand of copium.
