  1. At this point hang onto him. Maybe he turns it around at the end of the day this team is likely to stink for the next 3-4 seasons anyway.

  2. Way better chance that if you hold for 1-2 seasons his contract is normal (or even good) for a legit 2-way 2C

So yes no way you move him if retention is involved, but the other way that it is possible is a player that is underperforming relative to his contract comes back in a trade

  3. Part of me wants them to move him because I don’t feel like he has the work ethic to lead a winning team. But on the other hand… where do the 1 and 2 C come from?

Rossi seems like a very low end 2C so far. Next 2 drafts don’t have a high end center. And if you do get stenberg/mckenna then you’d probably want them playing with a decent center.

Maybe best to hold onto the guy until you draft his replacement at least

  4. Gotta hang on to him then, at least to see what he can do with McKenna/Stenberg on his wing (provided we can draft one of them). He’s been great when he’s had another good player on his line, and has never played with a talent like either of those prospects look like they might work out to be.

  5. The centre they want is Alexis Joseph in 2027. Kid is huge and is going to be a stud. The team should be doing whatever they can to ensure they’ve got a high pick in 27.

  6. i dunno man, capwages shows very few teams who have the cap space or assets to send to vancouver without salary retention

  7. 100% agree with others…if no deal is available without retention, hang onto him and he can be a veteran two-way 2nd line centre with a bad cap hit, and over time the AAV may not be so bad as the cap rises.

  8. I gotta think it would be more non ideal (vs actively bad) money coming back than retention.

But if Pettersen is traded just nuke the team.

  9. I’m with the people on here saying if they don’t want to pay him for the output he’s giving them now, we should keep him and let him be Hockey Grandpa to our young team the next couple years.

  10. Just keep him at this point , his salary won’t make a difference with the influx of young guys coming in and veterans being shipped out. Who knows maybe if he actually had a high end winger to play with he might actually be able to produce some more. JDB is not a first liner , I’ve loved linus story so far but realistically the guy is a third liner maybe a second line wing
