Hired a career loser with a mediocre offense over Kubiak or McDaniel. What a joke of a franchise.
Good thing they didn’t get Klint Kubiak, watching tonight’s game he seems to not know what he is doing (/s). But Stefanski did come in 2nd and 3rd place in the division in the only years he had a winning record as HC.
LETS GOOOOO
at least with kubiak and mcdaniel I wouldn’t be concerned about the offense, but I’ll see how it goes first
A very Rich McKay hire
Stefanski had interviews in Tennessee and another city (can’t remember who) next and the Falcons obv felt if they let him leave the building he would have been hired elsewhere.
EDIT: Tennessee, Baltimore, Miami all wanted second interviews
Maybe we needed a catholic HC because the way things have been going 👀
I’m happy just not to have Raheem, lets gooooo
I feel better about this hire than nearly every head coach Atlanta has hired over the last 20 years.
I don’t know that that means it’ll work out, but at the very least it’s not obviously terrible hires that won’t work like the Morris one.
Cautiously optimistic
My 2 cents about why I’m cautiously optimistic: He recorded 2 winnings seasons with the browns, 2 playoff appearances and a playoff win with the browns. That’s solid credentials at any team, but that’s especially impressive at the browns
because of the inertia and incompetence of the rest of the franchise. While Atlanta has been not great in overall history and lately, we’re another step up from the browns. They are an organization that constantly gets everything wrong, especially rosterwise. They are perhaps the worst franchise at assembling good talent in the entire league along with the jets in my estimation. That’s the reason the guy has two coach of the year awards: having success with those rosters.
Atlanta is more mediocre and underachieving than outright terrible like the browns. To take the browns to the playoffs shows an ability to maximize talent and coach a team out of old habits and identities (the browns hadn’t had a winning season in about 15 years when he went to the playoffs and won a game). Atlanta has solid core talent at several positions (though not perfect or lacking in others, like many other teams) but absolutely terrible or inconsistent coaching these last several years overall and I think lack a winning mentality. If he can maximize this talent, get Atlanta to think like a winning franchise and we make good personnel moves, I think Atlanta can be pretty successful.
It’s the nfl though, so it’s hard to really forecast anything and a lot will depend on if Penix works out, or if not, who we get in that position. I feel like that’s going to be the big decider of just how good will be
Again Cautiously optimistic though.
All i see is “career loser” like McDaniel did ANYTHING of note in Miami. This fanbase bitches moans and complains more than damn near any other.
LFG
This sub was gonna melt down no matter who was announced as coach. I wanna see the coordinator hires.
Why are we hiring another coach with an all time losing record? Can we hire someone that’s proven to win? This is Raheem 2.0.
I feel both opinions supporting and bashing the hire have validity. Just gonna wait and see what happens.
Fucking hate this hire man.. trash ass play caller
Welcome coach. Looking forward to what Falcons can build upon. I wonder if the future GM had the ok with this hire. I trust Matty’s judgement
People are just gonna find ways to hate this hire. This is something new. We hired an offensive minded head coach that runs a scheme that fits our current personnel, managed to take the fucking Browns to the playoffs in an absolutely stacked division, twice.
It’s fine to not get what you want, supporting the team is about backing the guy in charge till he shows he cannot do the job for the Falcons. Hopefully this is a turning point for the team.
idk how i feel about this
Bit of a meh for me but I’m still somewhat optimistic. Outside of Harbaugh it’s not like there was anyone to get particularly excited about. Still think I would have preferred an up and coming coordinator, but I suppose we’ll see.
Love it. My top 3 in order was Harbaugh, Klint and Kevin. So I did personally perhaps want Klint more, but 2X COTY with the BROWNS? I can see how that would be hard to pass up. In Matty Ice we trust
Good! Let’s go get over .500
He has two years to make a believer out of me.
Start with a winning season, then set our sights higher.
That’s my metric. You have the talent. Use it.
I don’t hate it or love it. I think he’s a solid coach that handled some things poorly in Cleveland, but overall this dude is so much better coach than the guys we’ve previously had.
Maybe he can grow and build here
I think it was a sensible hire. Waiting it out could’ve meant missing out on Harbaugh or Kubiak to other teams and being left with a much weaker head coach pool. Better to lock in third-choice Stefanski and get behind him 100%, time will tell but I’m excited. LET’S GOOOO!
Now let’s work on keeping Pitts
Why does this sub act like if we wanted Kubiak he would have accepted? Our QB situation is amongst the worst in the league, our draft position in the coming years is horrible. We have amongst the lowest leverages of teams looking for a HC. Harbaugh didn’t even want an interview to come here. Kubiak can choose to go anywhere, why the hell would he come here.
My Browns fan father-in-law just texted me his condolences.
I don’t want him playing any games at QB. But I think Matt is set on Penix so I’m good.
People need to remember good coaching prospects aren’t desperate for hires. Kubiak is going to have his pick of teams and there’s no guarantee he picks Atlanta.
Browns fan here. Stefanski is a good leader and the players will really like him. He is very detailed and organized. His offense seems a bit stuck in 2017 or so. Teams seemed undisciplined. I liked him and was willing to give him another year.
Honest question: how do you see a team go 5-12 and then want the guy leading that ship?
Oh my god this team cannot stop fucking themselves over
It’s funny, everyone here seems to either be like “enh, not a bad hire” or “OMG what have they done??”, and almost everyone at /NFL is saying how good of a hire it is for us.
Hell yea hopping on
I’m a Browns fan, I think it was a good hire for you. Offense can get a little stale, but if we had any talent at all on offense he’d have still been the coach in Cleveland. He’ll he fine in Atlanta
I’ll give it a chance. My man managed to get the Browns into the playoffs. That’s an impressive accomplishment. Maybe we’ll actually be able to get over .500 for once. Hopefully he can “find a way”.
Browns fan/lurker here. I’ll try and give my best opinion of Kevin.
Firstly, just ignore all his press conferences and interviews. He will reveal nothing and say nothing, but somehow infuriate you all at the same time. If they lost by 30 it’s nothing but “well we have to get better. That’s on me. I have to coach better. And we will get better”.
Some positives. His run from 20-23 was honestly incredible. He had Baker and prime Chubb mixed with Landry and a great O-Line. And the offense flourished. Even in the post Baker era, he started 5 QB’s in 23 and somehow made the playoffs. That’s mostly thanks to Joe Flacco and OC Alex Van Pelt. The offense was creative, fun and successful.
Then the offseason happened. He let go his entire offensive coaching staff except (OL coach Bill Callahan went to be with his son in Tennessee) and WR coach Chad O’Shea. No one really knew why either. His replacements going forward were nothing short of a train wreck. He hired Andy Dickerson for the offensive line. Gone after one year. Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator. Gone after one year. Went back and forth with calling plays, not calling plays. Promoted the TE coach Tommy Rees to OC in 25 and the offense got even worse which is crazy to think that was even possible. He didn’t use motion or shifting, went away from the zone scheme that he had so much success with from 20-23 and overall, it left a lot of people to wonder if they even formed game plans week in and week out.
You’ll probably see most Browns fans split. They don’t like Stefanski, or they feel like he wasn’t given a fair shot because of injuries, or having no QB (he was ok with getting rid of Baker btw) or having an owner meddle too much etc. Overall Kevin seems like a really good person and a really good coach, with an offense still stuck in the Kubiak 2008 playbook.
Yeah we’ll likely make the playoffs now. Winning in the playoffs though, that’s a tougher sell, but I’ll hope for the best.
Just look at the 49ers… yikes.
Tommy damn Rees. I’d rather have Z-rob again
Another second time losing HC reclamation project.
This franchise never fucking learns
Love it
I mean, I feel much better about this hire than I did raheem.
I don’t know how Stefanski hires will turn out, but considering that before Stefanski the Browns missed the playoff for 17 straight seasons and had one winning season during that span, I think he worked miracle by getting them 2 winnings seasons and playoffs in 6 years. I think Stefanski would have been ok if the Watson trade has worked, but the Browns traded 3 1st round and spend around $46 mil a year for a player that couldn’t stay healthy or produce. That would have crippled any organization and team let alone the Browns who is probably the worse franchise in sport history. So for that I think Stefanski deserves the benefit of the doubt and wait and see approach from the fans.
Ravens fans would like to thank you for ensuring he was not selected as our head coach
