Jeff Ulbrich staying on as Falcons defensive coordinator

  1. Okay great. Seemed like he called a pretty great defense. Excited to see him to continue to build it. Should hopefully get easier, having already filled the holes at #1 and #2 pass rusher. Would love to see this defense take another big step.

  2. “Rapoport also reported that Tommy Rees, who was Stefanski’s offensive coordinator with the Browns in 2025, is likely to follow the head coach and serve in the same role in Atlanta.”

  3. So really we’re going from Raheem/Robinson to Stefanski/OC.

We know Stefanski calls a heavy run game with play action. I think that’s perfect for who we have on offense (Bijan, etc…). And most importantly…. NO MORE PISTOL!

  4. Great news. I was really worried when Raheem left that the continuity for our defense as well as the production of our young guys like JPJ Walker and Watts would drop off due to Ulbrich being gone.

    Really glad to see it

  5. Oh I figured this was already the case, but nice to have it confirmed. Took our league worst pass rush and made it one of the best, and certainly the best in franchise history. Hopefully we can upgrade the player personnel in a couple of spots and improve it in every aspect.

  6. Now, the Falcons need a major upgrade in their Special Teams coach . . . Jeff Foxworthy, Tim Allen, Stevie Wonder . . .

  7. Ok Stefanski, I am happy now. Keeping Ulbrich when he’s obviously earned it was the best move. Glad he wasn’t arrogant and brought in his own guy.

  8. Arguably as a big of a move as hiring a HC with the continuity aspect and the upside he brings for our young core.

  9. I just wanna note that many of those who are negative about the Stefanski hire were also very pessimistic about the Ulbrich hire last year because he came from the Jets, and previously the Falcons, yet they thought Zach Robinson was a home run because he came from the Rams and worked for Sean McVay.

Point being, resumes can be very deceiving when you don’t put them in context. Stefanski and Ulbrich are both highly-respected coaches for good reason. They’ve each accomplished more with less.

We’ll see how the rest of the staff shapes-up, but this is the best combo of offensive and defensive leaders we’ve had in a very long time. Dan Quinn as HC with Kyle Shanahan as OC is the only situation I can think of in the past couple decades that would be comparable. And I like this combo better because our HC is primarily an offensive mind and we therefore shouldn’t go off a cliff if our OC gets hired away like we saw when Kyle took the San Fran job.

  10. I’m fully bricked up. I have a feeling this thing is going to last for more than 4 hours…

  11. I will happily eat my crow on this one. I was very upset when we re-hired him last year but I was completely wrong
