[Nightengale] The Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s request for a 7-year, $200 million deal last night and believed they would sign him until the Mets swooped in with their 3-year, $126 million offer after losing out in in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes.

  1. Yea we were out on Bo definitely a lot sooner than we all think, but the Phillies got absolutely hosed and used hard for leverage wow

Bo confirmed 3B for the Mets is a huge yikes from me, my goodness that will it go over well. Especially with his contract having opt outs, his defence at third is gonna lose him so much money

  2. At least that Phillies offer is in the realm of understandable.

Dodgers and Mets sending us straight into a lockout.

  3. All this leads me to believe that the Jays weren’t that interested in Bo. Especially at all these rumoured (and the Mets) prices. I think they’re ok with the current infield as is.

  4. I prefer Okamoto, seems like a plug a play type of player that could easily hit for 260.

The jays went to the WS without BO

  5. I kind of fell like in the hoopla of the Tucker/Bo stuff… people forget how good we are/were already.

This is a really strong team. Not a ton of star power or recognizable names… yet. They’ll certainly add another bat but I am very glad we didn’t sign either of these contracts.

Also, our IF functions so well now – studs defensively everywhere. Just need either Santander back hitting (don’t have high hopes) or another OF / flex bat.

  6. Looks like the Jays weren’t that interested in Bichette. Long term he wasn’t going to be the best fit given it would have pushed Okamoto to LF, or you’d have to bench Gimenez/Clement who are both solid players.

I’m not as down on the position core as I’m sure many are here, and I’ve said before I think the Jays are still quite strong even without Bichette and Tucker. Bichette had a lot of red flags on a longer term deal.

Thanks for the memories, Bichette, sorry that the massive home run in game 7 wasn’t the game winning run.

  7. Tbh he probably should have taken the length. His long term projection has always been a question and now you’re gonna play 3B when you were already the worst defensive SS in the league and it’s not something he can improve, his arm is a pool noodle he’s gonna struggle making that throw. Not to mention he’s gotten hurt for large chunks for the last 2 years. I doubt he takes any of the opt outs no way his market improves with age

  8. We’ve got nothing to be mad at here. Thankful Ross didn’t sign either one of them to these contracts. Bo got paid good for him. Enough about him not wanting to be here. We’ll miss his bat yes but what else will we really miss ?

  9. It’s pretty clear this FO does not trust Bo long term. Wish him the best. I personally would’ve taken the long term deal. Who knows what Bo’s legs look like in 3 years.

  10. I guess we just have to accept the fact that management didn’t believe in Bo long term. Best of of luck to him, this one stings.

  11. kinda fucked to use the phillies for leverage like that tbh. i think we lost our leg in that race a while ago. oh well. onwards and upwards. we may have lost bo but we’ll never lose the power of friendship ✨

  12. Disappointed Jays didn’t get either Tucker or Bo. But glad they both signed in the National League.

  13. Jeez….Well I can’t fault the Mets for coming in when they lost out on their main target. I guess the reports that the Jays were moving on from Bo were accurate.

  14. I would have taken the 7 years if I was him. I swear the only reason he managed to play as many games as he did last year was because he was running at like 80%.

  15. Oddly, i’m not particularly sad, both overpays for injury prone items going to the NL. Unlikely Satander will be will be injured most of the season. We gotta make a trade for another bat though. And please gawd, don’t overpay for Bellinger cause we’re butt hurt! Some smaller market teams are pretty damn good without massive payrolls.

  16. Bo is also racking up a bit of an injury history.

Didnt need him down the stretch to secure the division.

Didnt need him in the playoffs.

Im good with running gold glove fielding at SS and plugging in Okamoto’s bat.

Addy (hopefully) continues his upward trajectory. A bounce back from Tony Taters.

We’re set. And Rogers can add money for pieces if things go off the rails with in season moves.

    LFG.
