  26. Get it done with bellinger then splurge on the trade market for a starter who can take the top of the rotation. If i see mclean starting on opening day stearns is asking for a 2025 repeat. I need a proven guy at the top to take stress off of the rest

  27. I think people are totally misreading Bellinger's request. He doesn't want years, he wants to accumulate salary equivalent to 7 years of his going rate within the next 7 years.

    If he wants 250 million over a 7 years (as an example) this is how a short-term deal would beat almost anything he'd get from the Yankees or Phillies, unless they give him stupid money:

    Let's say:

    * The Yankees offer him 175M for five years.
    * The Phillies give him the massive 250M over 7 he wants.
    * The Mets offer three years at $150 with opt outs

    With the Mets deal, at worst, he'd need a four year/ 25M a year deal afterwards to hit his goal of 7/ 250M. He'd also retain some control of where he plays.

    Most likely, he uses the first opt out as leverage to extend the deal an additional year and now he'd be 50M away from his goal in only 4 years.

    He'd have three chances to opt out and/ or push for an extension that gives him that fourth year at 50M.

    Now, instead of making 250 over 7 years, he's made 200M over four years and he has three years to exceed his expectations.

    His best case scenario would be using his opt outs to push for two more 50M seasons. Whether it's two one-year extensions from the Mets to not opt, or from another team. Then, he's made the entire 250 in three less years and can either shoot for more or retire with the entire bag.

  28. I still would not deal BATY, for the reasons that one guy gets hurt and you have no in place. If Marcus gets hurt, if Bichette struggles to a point he's costing games at 3b and you move him to DH you have no 3B at all if Baty is gone. I am not against Baty playing first and do we know what he can do in LF if you can't land Bellinger and Carson B struggles you will need to aquire a CF somehow, be it Bader or Robert. I just do not want to see Baty dealt for just anyone who wants him and then hang on to guys who do not have a place, like Vientos like Mauricio and even Acuna though he could be another back up infielder. But ideally for me, I would sign Bader, Bellinger (on a high AV short term deal) and I would look to either sign another pitcher short term too and also look to aquire one and I wouldn't be against dealing Senga
