NHL EDGE stats: Andersson trade solidifies Golden Knights defense | NHL.com

  1. Andersson is an excellent player and was the heartbeat of the Flames defense for half a decade, and a close second in command for the rest of the decade behind only prime Giordano. He’s reliable in both ends and is a heart and soul guy with a ton of personality and attitude. He’s the kind of player that grows to absolutely despise rival teams and puts up his finest performances against them, typically. Just the personality alone, he’s going to shine under the bright lights of Vegas. He’s a top pairing defenseman all day long and should slot as a #2 on most teams, eats 25-ish minutes a night, is one of the finest trash talkers in the league (he’s unique in that he does a lot of physical mockery of opponents) and drives other teams nuts.

The effort he puts in for his team is massive, the Flames were in an awful spot last season and while he had a down year overall, part of it was because he played through a broken leg for a third of the season because the team was in such a bind. Two years ago he got hit by a truck in Detroit as a pedestrian and was injured and still came back to finish the year. He works his ass off to help the team however he can and is a great leader too.

As a Flames fan (VGK enjoyer since day one too) I’m going to miss everything about him and will be tuning into a lot more VGK games again with Ras/Phat Rass/Razzy around. You’ll all fall in love with him the moment he scores a goal and celebrates by staring into the soul of the first opposing fan he spots in the stands.
