This has to be one of the most challenging offseasons for a Steelers GM in decades.
After 19 years, the HOF, face of the franchise head coach steps down.
9 other teams were in the same situation (3 already have made hires), including 2 that have MVP QB’s in their roster. Also, the candidate pool is far from ideal, especially if his looking for a proven offensive mind capable of modernizing an offense and developing a QB.
Then, there’s the roster. The Steelers have no franchise quarterback, no clear path to acquiring one, and an aging group of veterans at key positions.
Finally, Khan’s first draft class becomes extension elegible this summer. It’s the first real chance he and his team have to self scout. Deciding which players are foundational pieces for the next years will be key to rebuild a solid roster and sustain a healthy salary cap.
Pull this offseason off and Omar will have a job until he decides to retire. Miss, and he may be out of a job in 3 years. And GM’s never get second chances.

The Watt contract is a fireable offense.
I hope we get Shula

Yes
He is avg. not good, not bad.
What franchise QB would you have liked the Steelers to get that was available in the past couple years?
Khan we trust him?
Watt contract isn’t looking good. That WR corp was the drizzling shits especially by the end. He seems to draft well but he’s pretty iffy otherwise
Yeah he’s been solid. Knee jerk babies will say otherwise. This org is the bastion of stable. So like it or not he’s here to stay.
The biggest problem I have with Khan is that we have basically gone into back to back seasons with very little depth at the WR position. Wr haven’t had a WR 2 in two years now. If we are to believe that Tomlin had a lot of say in player acquisition, I wonder how different this off-season will be in terms of player acquisition with Tomlin no longer being apart of the organization.
My fear is Tomlin was actually such a good coach yha he kept getting results in spite of khan and art… we’ll find out soon enough!
His first 3 drafts have all been very good. He’s rebuild the offensive line and gotten solid pieces to rebuild the defensive line.
Will be interested to see how he runs the team now without Tomlin having an influence.
Khan is fine at drafting but his FA pickups and trades have been questionable
I trust him. He has done good things like trading Chase Claypool for what became JPJ. He has quietly rebuilt our trenches. He’s sensible and not flashy. I agree this year will be his biggest test, but I think he will handle it well.
Depends who has been behind these roster moves lately; who brought in Rus, Fields, Rodgers, Ramsey, Jonnu Smith? The Steelers had always been a team built through their draft picks. It sure seems like they’ve gone away from that recently

Not if he lets Rooney hire Flores or McCarthy
He’s better than Beane
I think its bullshit that there is “no clear path to acquiring one” on the franchise quarterback front. Do you know how much cap room we have in 2027? And thats before we start playing payroll kick the can and/or deal Watt. We could have as much as 200M aviabile in cap space in 2027.
What has he done for the team besides make terrible overpriced signings, horrible trade and other than the first round his drafts have been absolutely dog shit
Khan we trust him?
He worked with Colbert for the 20 years that Colbert was with Pittsburgh and was hand picked by him as the replacement. He’s a fine GM and very capable. I think his only real downside is he is essentially Colbert 2.0, and while Colbert was a great GM, he had downsides when it came to long term cap planning and willingness to bring in big names via FA. He also seemed to have this odd ability to always have a bad pick in the 2nd round.
Yes, he did well in the 2023 & 2024 Drafts and nailed our 1st rounder in 2025(no 2nd rounder due to Metcalf trade). Overall Grade: B+
Ironically, the very thing that fans hate about the Rooneys- keep coaches for a long time- is the very reason that makes this position so attractive to a perspective head coach.
So far yes. Very few misses and crazy value late in the draft:
All are 3rd round or later: (Payton Wilson, Mason McCormick, Jack Sawyer(?), Darnell Washington, Nick Herbig(!))
Combined with some aggressive trades (JPJ)
Been pretty satisfied so far. Gotta hit with a QB though, that’ll be the big test.
This discussion is really enlightening with all of the sad feelings and other anecdotes that have zero actual insight into how things are run in the front office. The facts: Omar Khan has presided over a roster that has made the playoffs every year he has been GM, all with a revolving door at Quarterback and a coach that most people think was a bum and decided to resign after the latest playoff loss.
You kind of have to have faith in Khan right now, as long as he’s actually the one choosing the next head coach and not Rooney.
I’m hoping some of the misses have been Tomlin’s dudes. Got to hit out the park this draft. I’ll be there to make sure it happens
No I don’t trust him. He has just barely done enough to not end up on the streets. I’m willing to give him a chance, but the only highlight of his career has been the Chase Claypool trade. Everything else has been bad or okay.
