[Gleeman] Twins’ surprising Victor Caratini signing raises questions about disjointed roster

  1. I do agree with Gleeman on this.

But whilst he is hypothesising a number of possibilities. Im convinced Jeffers is getting traded.

Jeffers is expiring and surely won’t be back. The Red Sox and Rays are both in on catchers and the FA market is barren in that spot, i would also imagine Jeffers isnt happy about going from potentially 110+ starts back down to 80ish in a walk year.

Given the absolute need for payroll flexibility and lack of bullpen, i’m certain it will be Jeffers + potentially Larnach. My guess is we trade for relievers instead of highest prospect value. That’s $11m going out that can allow for flexibility, as well as a right handed bat

Caratini also protects us from being without a big league level catcher. We havent got catchers nearing the majors in our farm. This pushes the issue back a year for us. Whilst we see how Tait progresses.

I dont think Tait will be ready in 2 years, even if i am quite bullish on him. But we also need to see how he operates behind the plate. Which is where i think the potential concerns are

  2. Jeffers is going to be traded this year. That’s the clear takeaway here. They don’t sign Caratini to a multi-year deal if they have any thought of extending Jeffers.

And if they’re not extending Jeffers, they’re trading him.

Poorly constructed and untalented roster, worst bullpen in MLB. 70 wins is their ceiling.

Caratini could very well turn out to be Vázquez 2.0

  3. I fully admit that I’m a pretty casual baseball fan, and even *I’m* kinda depressed about this coming season…I can’t imagine how bummed you true fans are. Sorry, MN bros 🙁
