The Canucks Just Won the Kiefer Sherwood Trade

In this video, I react to the Vancouver Canucks trading Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for two second-round draft picks and defensive prospect Cole Clayton, break down why the Canucks made the move, what Sherwood brought to Vancouver, and how this trade fits into the team’s short and long-term direction. I look at the value of the 2026 and 2027 second round picks, explain why Sherwood’s market ended up where it did at the trade deadline, and give my honest take on why this deal is actually a win for the Vancouver Canucks despite some fans being disappointed a first-round pick wasn’t involved.

  1. I wish we were a contender and could have kept Kiefer. But I think this is the best for both player and team. Hope San Jose make it to the playoffs.

  2. still remember when hughes ask canucks to get sherwood because he was just too hard to play against. you need guys like that for the playoffs. and why are all these guys falling on their knees? everyone knew he was going to be traded. lmao.

  3. I think the 2 2nds was also a reflection on his recent drop in production. If Kiefer was keeping up the same pace(35+ goals on the season looked possible), then the 1st as a return seemed pretty reasonable an ask.

  4. A single 1st rounder was asking a lot, IMHO. 2 2nds is similar to the Luongo trade, which was a trade made from a bad bargaining position back then. So I consider this trade a nice haul.

  5. second round picks making the nhl, 34%, out of those maybe 5% are actually nhl players, unless these 2 picks get moved with some one for a prospect and a pick, it's a waste and a premature trade.

  6. I was in bio class picking my jaw off the ground reading this trade I ain’t mad at it but for the life of me don’t get rid of Garland petty or my favourite Boeser

  7. Won the trade? I guess. We aren't going anywhere this season. He's 31, so maybe has 3-4 years left. And we got some draft capital and a career AHL'er. Dunno, man.

  8. This was my first year watching consistently and he was my favorite player to watch. Best of luck on the sharks buddy. I hope we get someone exciting for next season though, ready for the rebuild

  9. Sherwood is like a family dog. Loyal and fierce to those who threaten his family. I hope he gives as much passion for the sharks as he did for the Canucks. (not that he’s a dog but you know what I mean lol)
