The Leafs still can’t afford to trade for Kadri in season and have it make any sense. This is a pipe dream. Calgary’s not retaining because he has 5 more years on his deal so unless 2 of Domi, Joshua, or Jarnkrok are waiving to go to Calgary (or one of those guys and Maccelli) and then Tanev goes on LTIR, this doesn’t work cap wise, and even then it’s a stretch, plus, you haven’t traded any assets for him yet.
They can’t get Kadri. They couldn’t get him last year, they can’t get him this year.
Man if the Leafs, Jays and Raps got even a quarter of the players they’re rumoured to have interest in, they’d have all star teams.

If the Leafs make this trade I think it will be proof that our org sees our competitive window as the rest of Matthews’ current contract and they’re rebuilding after that. I just don’t see any other reason to buy when all season we’ve been, at best, mid. This will cost at least Cowan and our 2028 1st and how are we retooling with no picks? So if we do it (I am very doubtful) it is an all or nothing kind of move.
