Am I reading this right?

So if Mike McDaniel becomes the Chargers OC, that means the Raiders didn't offer him the head coaching job, which means…

The new head coach is either Chargers DC Jesse Minter or a guy from one of the remaining playoff teams.

— Seahawks-Klint Kubiak

— Rams-Chris Shula, Mike LaFleur, Nate Scheelhaase

— Broncos-Davis Webb, Vance Joseph

— Patriots-Josh McDan… Just kidding.

Amirite?

  1. So in my opinion, somewhat easy to follow.

Obviously, if they hire Minter anytime prior to Monday 1/26, he was the raiders first choice.

If they don’t hire Minter by 1/26, they likely wanted Kubiak, Webb, Rams Assistants, as first choice and Minter was either toe to toe with them or a close second.

Those in the playoffs can’t interview untill 1/26 FYI

  2. McDaniel could still be the head coach. Pelissero reports:

“The Chargers plan to hire Mike McDaniel as their offensive coordinator, per sources.

McDaniel is still a candidate for the Raiders and Ravens head coaching jobs. But if McDaniel is an OC in 2026, it’s expected to be in L.A.”

If we don’t have to deal with him in the division, that makes him an even more attractive hire in my eyes.

  3. Also, maybe McDaniel prefers to coach Herbert and see what HC positions are open in a year or 2 over coming to the Raiders.

  4. Perhaps the question is can Tom Brady sway Marky Davis and his raging boner for Gruden to choose someone else?

  5. Maybe the already hired Webb, and are trying to build him a staff with McDaniel or others..

  6. I was never on the Minter train, but now that McDaniel is a Charger I’m warming up to the idea. I still think Minter ends up in Baltimore because of his history there, and the fact they have a more ready-made team and a certain stability that would be more attractive than our recent history.

I’m scared we are waiting for Klint Kubiak and then we don’t land him like Johnson last year… which leaves us panic hiring Kliff Kingsbury or some last-minute shit like that.

  7. Not necessarily. I think McDaniel knows he has 1 shot left to make it as an HC. He might not like this current crop of openings. He might go there and crush it. Plus, working under Harbaugh will have its perks. Can learn some more. Then he could have his pick of openings next year if he does well. It isn’t necessarily because the Raiders didn’t offer him. I fully believe he would’ve been hired by a team this cycle if he chose to want to be hired.

  8. I read that the Raiders hired a new linebackers coach. I think they already have a new coach and are getting his choice in staff.
