[Russini] NEWS: The Chargers are expected to hire former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as their next OC, sources tell me and Daniel Popper. McDaniel has been a hot commodity this cycle, interviewing for both head coach and offensive coordinator roles.

  1. Good hire for the Chargers, but it won’t mean a damn thing if they can’t stay healthy.

  2. The worst part of this Bienemy ordeal is how fucking bad the entire thing is from a process perspective. We didn’t even interview any other candidates.

We just sat around for two weeks waiting for the Bears to lose so we could hire Bienemy. It’s just wildly complacent.

  3. i literally can’t believe we didn’t even interview other candidates man this shit so depressing

  4. Hope Andy hasn’t regressed as much as much as the last three years suggest, because the division is going to be a huge challenge going forward.

  5. This is exactly what I wanted us to do. But hey, a bunch of guys here are excited because EB can yell at people.

  6. EB should be a step up from Nagy but it would’ve been insane to see what McDaniel could’ve done with Mahomes. He’s a great coach and unfortunately this is a good get by the Chargers

  7. STOP SENDING ALL THIS TOP TIER TALENT TO OUR DIVISION FFS! Next thing you know even the Raiders will stop fucking up.

No more coasting to the playoffs, its a bar fight now. and there is no room for error.

  8. Lot of doom and gloom in here. Andy and Spags knows how to handle this type of offense. Look at the matchups against Miami in 2023 and the successes against the 49ers since shanahan took over. The chargers offense also does not have any players like Tyreek or waddle or achane on their roster, currently. Mcdaniels offense is great for fantasy football, not real football.

  9. The years of leaning on Pat being a superhero with little to no help and still winning the division are over. The west is building teams to beat Andy and Pat and I fear the chiefs aren’t up to making the changes needed. I hope I’m wrong.

  10. I’m never too worried about any hire from any rival so long as we have Pat, but this is really concerning. I hope we really make some roster moves this offseason.

On the plus side, if McDaniels is amazing and destroys us, at least it should only be a year before he’s a HC again (hopefully).

  11. That sucks a lot. That’s a very capable dude to made the division harder. Depressing in fact. McDaniel isn’t a god, but he schemed guys open really well for Turndaballova’s bum ass and had Achane cooking since his drafting.

we hired yet another retread and friend of Reid. I appreciate Andy’s contributions and they aren’t small, but this offense has been old, tired, and unimaginative for a long time. Reid is simply too old, too stubborn, and too unwillingly to step fully outside his comfort zone.

  12. I going to continue to believe that the Chargers are a cursed franchise no matter who they hire

  13. This is good though, should they fail in the postseason again, no more excuses should be valid

  14. I was more into the EB hire when I assumed McDaniels would get a HC opportunity but when he signs with the Charges as an OC… feels more like a miss now (still an improvement though)

  15. Big fucking deal. Spags figured this guy out long ago. The worst part of this is the national media will once again claim the Chargers will win the west and Herbert will be the god of all QBs. 🤮

  16. Team that finished 11-6 and beat us twice is improving at OC, and will be healthier next year, while we brought back the same guy we had 3 years ago, to an offense that hasn’t changed in years and every defense in the league knows exactly how to slow it down.

If you can find anything positive about how the Chiefs have handled their first losing season in the Mahomes era, with 2 playoff teams in their division, I’d like whatever you’re smoking.

  17. I’m surprised Mike didn’t end up in another HC position, but good for the Chargers. Sure, the division might get a bit tougher but I’d rather be the best of a tough division than strolling into the playoffs every year on the back of everyone else’s mediocrity more than our own talent.
