Felix Hernandez's jump from 20.6% to 46.1% is the largest single year gain since BBWAA ballots resumed yearly voting in 1966-67. Andy Pettitte had the 11th biggest jump, Utley the 16th biggest. (Source: Ryan Thibodaux)

Andy Pettite jumps from 27.9% to 48.5% in HOF voting. A significant single year jump. Here, he mows down the Astros for his 200th career win.

  1. “Consistent excellence”

I still remember how sad I was when my dad told me he was going to play for the Astros, and how happy I was when he came back.

  2. Most post season starts, wins, and innings all-time. Regular and post season combined wins: 275. Top 6 in cy young voting 5 times. 5 rings. Open admission of using HGH under doctors orders to recover from an injury one time. Let him in the HOF.

  3. If Pettitte is ever inducted into the HOF, I will certainly cheer for it. One of my all-time favorite Yankees. I was heartbroken when he went to Houston.

But ultimately I don’t think Pettitte is a HOFer.

  4. Andy Pettite should have been in the Hall of Fame years ago.

Every postseason since he retired has been a glaring reminder of why he should be in the HOF.

    Extremely underrated and undervalued pitcher.

  5. I’m a small-hall guy, so I personally don’t think Pettitte belongs even if you ignore the HGH.
