I’ve seen this unfulfilled promise before.

  1. I’m telling myself to not get too excited about anything until there’s actual construction on site, but to be honest, something feels different about this time. It feels like the new ownership group has a fresh approach to this, and outside parties seem more willing to work with them than they were with Sternberg.

  2. I’m still not convinced Hillsborough will bring the cash to the table. I hope I’m wrong.

  3. The new owners are real estate developers… maybe they purchased one the least expensive MLB teams which they new was looking for a new stadium in a growing market, not to make money directly from owning the team, but rather as a long term bet they could develop a stadium on the backs of public financing and then have all the development/commericial rights of the vicinity… make more off of homes, apartments, commerical tenants. The MLB team is the conduit for public funding and support for the project. If they make money owning the team, that’s just a bonus. So their goal would be not to lose money on the Rays… but it also might not be their priority to build a championship team if that requires direct investment in the team itself.
