Will The Calgary Flames Flip Zach Whitecloud Before The Deadline?? | FN Barn Burner

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett dive into newly acquired Flames defenseman Zach Whitecloud, who came over in the Rasmus Andersson deal. Is Whitecloud just a short-term piece the Flames could flip before the deadline, or do they actually see him as part of the future on Calgary’s blue line? The guys break down his fit, his value around the league, and what this move might signal about the Flames’ long-term plan.

  1. Pinder always thinks they're getting a "haul". Whitecloud is not bringing you a "haul". But they do have to trade someone, and maybe 2 people to short Huska's options.

  2. Trade him Back to Vegas for a No name Defender with no chance of staying in the NHL… or a Pick that is 5 years away…

Vegas and Dallas with the Whole No Tax System are preferable choices for Players to sign long term contracts… System is rigged

  3. Trade him at the Draft or keep him you need a quality D man trade the lower end players unless you can pull a good pick like a high first

  4. It's a win/win either way. Great person and player to help continue to build the culture and also a decent trade option for teams needing more stability.

  5. They gave up Anderrson and got a first and a second. If they trade Whitecloud with 2+ years remaining at $2.75 million they could get at least a first back. Now it's Andersson for 2 firsts and a potential 3rd first. Trade him. He's 29 and will not be on the good Flames.

  6. I think Whitecloud’s value isn’t simply his play (I see him as a 4/5 but he’s on your third pair then you’ve got a really deep core)

It’s his contract and term. That value only goes down with each passing month. I think you trade him sooner, and I think you could get pleasantly surprised if a bidding war starts for him. Look at some of the wild deals from last deadline.

  7. Anyone over 27? Trade for pics. As many as possible. Prefer deals with 2-4 pics vs 1-2. Subsidize the deals like Markstrom and Anderson.

Wheezer, Hubby do, Kadri, Coleman, Whitecloud. Easy 10 pics in that list if not 15 or 20.

Look how young Montreal and other rebuilders are.

Since you're greedy, you can't be down for long.

Tank this year 1/3 or 5 chance in getting a stud. Next year = end of rebuild (hope for a top10 next yr). That's all the time you've got.

    studs:
1 Parek? If not trade for 3-5 pics NOW
    2 wolfe
    2.5 other goalie looks decent
    3 top 5 draft this yr 2026
4 trade 2-3 draft pics for top10 this year 2026
    5 trade 2-3 drafts for a top20 this yr 2026
    6 trade 2-3 draft pics for a top 10 in 2027
7 2027 is end of your tank, but "miss playoffs due to young kids" get another top10 pick
    8 trade 2-3 pics for a top20 in 2027
9 how did Edmonton in 80's draft so well? They "got lucky". Figure it out. pray a 2/3/4 rounder turns into something.

that's 7 great players plus 2 good/great goalies, plus Zary, and anyone else that's young and good on flames.
