Cubs REKAP Podcast – (S4 – EP2) Cubs Aren’t Finished: Evaluating the Current Roster and What’s Ahead

Kap and Gordon sit down to break down the current construction of the Cubs roster following last week’s big news: the signing of superstar Alex Bregman. They discuss how the Cubs’ spending approach has changed this season, fueled by the added revenue from five home playoff games—something Tom Ricketts has pointed to as allowing for increased investment. The Cubs are still searching for pitching help, and this roster may not be finished yet. Stay tuned as Kap and Gordon sit down with Cubs General Manager Jed Hoyer in studio next week.

  1. For the play where Javy baited the first baseman into chasing him they always show the excitement in the Cubs dugout. I'd really like to see what was going on in the Pirates dugout. Were they pulling their hair out, banging heads against the walls, or just shouting to get the force at first?

  2. get verlander. If they do extend Nico, he will get paid by the Yankees next off season otherwise. But Bregman was a FA….and he got signed by the Cubs. Nico can also be a FA. Just sign him is my hope. I do not know which FA right fielder is out there who can out produce Suzuki. He has made some blunders over the years and I wonder if he got Lasik surgery in recent years. He played just fine out there in RF last year. I would have preferred Bellinger in RF. Maybe Bader can play RF? I doubt Shaw will be better than Suzuki as a defender. Granted, Happ went from an average infielder to a four time gold glover in LF.

  3. If the luxury tax isn’t that big of a deal i’m not sure why belli’s not back. He’s exactly what you needed and was the last big piece waiting for a deal. You have a good chunk of money coming off your books next year in happ and shota. And if the rumors of being interested in gallen are true, why not put that money towards belli? Not sure why you’d want to spend $20 mil on a starter you don’t need when for like $10 mil more you solve your RF problem and give yourself a great lineup.

  4. All that's left for outfielders in free agency is Harrison Bader and Mike Tauchman. Maybe it's time to give Alcantara an opportunity to play against tough lefties. He can sub for PCA, he can play right field and have Suzuki DH for Ballesteros against tough lefties, he can play for Happ when he goes into an extended slump. Maybe Tauchman accepts a minor league deal, he'd be great to have just in case! I think the Cubs are pretty much set for now, I know the Dodgers have more talent than the Cubs, but sometimes cohesiveness beats out allstars! Go Cubs!!!!!!

  5. They want Gallen with half the reason aiming at next season when 3 of their starters facing FA: Shota ; Boyd; Taillon. Then you don’t have any veteran starters to stabilize the pitching unit

  6. Hey kap the cubs are certainly not done yet I expect the cubs to get more pieces of this team to make them contenders for the world series this upcoming season
