Vikings Sign Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores to Contract Extension

  1. This doesn’t rule him out. If he doesn’t get or accept a head coaching gig he stays with the Vikings. I would imagine this gives him some leverage.

  2. He can still get a head coaching job. This doesn’t mean much for us, only rules out him being a DC.

  3. Flores doesn’t fit the mold of Noll, Cowher, and Tomlin hirings we are most likely not hiring someone that was a former HC doesn’t matter that it’s been 19 years since Tomlins hiring

  4. No one was hiring him to be a Head Coach after what happened in Miami – he is the perfect Rooney Rule interview it will go on for years.

They promised him JJ McCarthy will NOT be the QB next year and they will get a real QB in – and paid him a boatload of money and he came back.

And in case some team LOSES their mind and hires him to be the HC this doesn’t stop him from accepting.

  5. He probably got a good indication from both the ravens and Steelers that he is not getting the job.

So it’s down to Shula or McCarthy

  6. It is very very possible the Steelers won’t end up with an A or B level HC. This Flores signing is a real indication of that. Some might say Harbaugh, McDaniel, Flores, Stefanski, were the four A level candidates available for Pittsburgh. So MrRooney, on to the lesser qualified candidates.

  7. Feels like he knows he isn’t going to get the job so he took the raise from Minnesota. I know he can still accept a head coaching job, but I feel he wouldn’t bother signing yet if he thought he had a legitimate shot.
