Good Morning, All!
I was just talking with my mom about Jonathan Quick and it got me thinking. I was also telling her about Marc-Andre Fleury and how he resigned with the Penguins for a professional try out to officially retire from the NHL as a Penguin. Do you guys think that maybe the Kings will do the same thing if not something similar?
I think that would be a solid way to wrap up Quickie's career, back with the team he started it all with.

Depends on whether Quick’s grudge is with Blake or with the organization. He was very upset when he left. He might not want to come back.
to the person who downvoted this post… why lol
*re-signed, not resigned (the opposite)
I am so happy for Quick and his career but man I still remember wanting it to be Johathan Bernier who won that battle with Quick, Taylor, Zatkoff, and Rowat
After seeing Jon’s comment about coming back to LA for the game, there’s no way in hell he plays here again even if it’s for one shift.
Everyone wanted Blake to show some balls, make bold moves. Then, when he does, everyone bitches about it. Quick wasn’t going to ask for a trade and he wanted to keep playing – the Kings weren’t going to resign him, so it would have been beyond stupid to keep this guy around (as he was contributing nothing at the time) only for him to walk at end of season.
It’s possible but I doubt it. He grew up a huge Rangers fan so he’ll probably retire as a Ranger unless they move him. It seems fitting.
A new one Day contract with a symbolic number (say $32,404, the last three numbers being his win total as the wins leader for America-Born Netminders) as a donation either to the KCF or a charitable cause Quicky personally supports
Flower wanted to play one more game
I’d say its highly likely he officially retires a king. Ownership and Luc will have to put in some work to mend fences with him, but with the team doing so poorly they would really benefit from the PR and throwing the fans a bone while interest in the team is so low
Just literally came across a video where he’s still upset with the organization.
Those were really good times.
I dont see that happening unfortunately. The kings treated him like shit. It was wrong. I am embarrassed for the franchise of how they handled trading the greatest goalie in Kings history. I still am pissed and so is Jonathan.
As a man that holds grudges, I understand him.
Quickie clearly is still sour and hates the Kings top management. I don’t expect him to ever say anything nice or return for any “Jersey Hanging Ceremonies” or statue revelations until the entire front office has been cleared out. He didn’t even attend the 10 Year Stanley Cup Reunion despite supposedly being in town at the time. I’m certain he probably came and got together with all his former friends/teammates, but he refused to participate in anything promotional FOR the Kings organization. It kind of reminds me of Marcel Dionne and how he shunned The Kings for nearly 20 years after he was traded.
The Kings have won two and only two Stanley Cups, in large part due to Jonathan Quick playing so god damn well. I get that it’s a business, but if you’re in the business of treating the people who granted your organization its greatest success this poorly, then it seems like a bad business model.
It’d be great if he came back for a 1-day contract but I can’t really see it happening.
Whenever the Kings decide to start acting like a serious organization, repairing the relationship with Quick is the right thing to do. I don’t see Ken Holland as the guy to do it. But whenever they get a new front office in after it’s the right move to make.
How Rob Blake went about trading Quick was disgraceful. It wasn’t so much trading him itself. But how they went about it, blindsiding him as if he was just some random journeyman player and not an all time franchise great who played 15 seasons or so with the team and was a pivotal part of 2 cup winning teams. You blindsided him with a trade to the worst team in the league for a rental who the Oilers lit up like a Christmas tree in the playoffs. Luckily for Quick he ended up in Vegas getting another ring, but he has every right to be pissed at the organization.
If you want to trade him and he’s not part of your long term plans. That’s perfectly fine. A player like that who meant a lot to your organization. You let them know behind the scenes what’s going on. You try to work with them and trade them to a desirable situation. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but you try to do right by them in that situation. What type of message does it send everyone else in that locker room if that’s how you’re willing to do a guy of that magnitude who gave your organization 15 seasons. That’s not the type of message you want to send if you want guys to buy into your program.
Look at how the Lakers and Dodgers treat their star players. Not just when they’re a star, but also on the backend of their career as well. There’s a reason why guys want to play for these teams. This applies to any other well ran organization.
Front Office burnt that bridge with Quickie. Not saying he shouldn’t have been traded, but had they acted like professionals, there was a good chance Quick would be back here before he hung it up. I know the argument here, is it’s just business, but the guy is a Kings living legend. If anybody needed the professional courtesy for the trade, it’s him.
