Imagine if AD retired a Mav after 10 years and another 395 injuries.
No matter how much the Mavs want an AD trade by the deadline, it is very unlikely.

If Mavs keep AD past the deadline, and Mavs make a postseason push as a lower seed.Then I would just keep him (not extend him) and use Gafford to salary dump Caleb, Hardy, and DLo. Sign Nembhard, and Cisse, That might be enough to help them out financially.
They are waiting until off season because no one wants him. AD is a plague. He is unwanted by everyone in NBA. He is trash.
Lets say gafford klay and marshall get traded. What types of assets would you expect the mavs to have afterwards?

If we looking for best stroy line. Here is one. 1st bring back Dirk as President of Operations. He is in total control. Start with all current mgt that Nico bought in 100% clear house. Let Dirk hire GM & mgt. All team doctors, and all coaching & trainers. Then go to the roster. 2nd. Trade AD get what you can for him. Keep Irving if he wants to stay after what's coming next. Maxie, Williams, Ryan, Klay, Marshall, PJ, Flagg, Gafford, Lively (on a team friendly contract kinda like Powells) Cissi. Now the biggie. No AD, No Martin, No Powell. Let Dirk GO GET LUKA. He very well might return if Dirk is in total control. Start: Luka & Irving at guards. Flagg & PJ at forwards. Gafford, at center. Next 5. Williams, Christie, Klay, Marshall and Lively. Solid 10 players. Then you have Williams and who ever you get for the trades to round out the top 15. Championship contender for the next 5 years.
When Kyrie Irving is ready to play and AD is healthy he should play just to see them together then trade him immediately MFFL HE GOTTA GO BEFORE THE START OF NEXT SEASON
They have to get off of the AD contract if anybody is interested which I doubt.
Trade Klay Kyrie and AD. Pushing for the playoffs would be a mistakr
