Kiper: “Arvell Reese, LB Ohio State.
The Jets ranked 31st in sacks with 26, and Will McDonald IV was the only player on the roster with more than four of them (eight). Jermaine Johnson is heading into his fifth-year-option season, meaning the depth chart could be thinning out on the edge. With coach Aaron Glenn’s defensive background, getting that unit right will be an offseason priority. Reese played off the ball before moving into an edge rusher role in 2025, and he has the traits to make an impact there in the NFL. I love his instincts and burst. (And if New York wanted him at linebacker, there’s a void there with Quincy Williams entering free agency.)
For the Jets fans screaming that the team needs a quarterback, I’m with you. There just isn’t another passer worthy of a top-two selection right now after Dante Moore decided to go back to Oregon for another season. Perhaps that changes. Maybe the Jets go get a veteran and make this irrelevant anyway, waiting for 2027, instead, when they have three first-rounders. But right now, New York is better off taking the top defensive prospect on the board — and maybe getting lucky at the QB position when it is back on the board in the middle of Round 1.

Recall that the Jets were left out of the quarterback game when they were on the board the first time at No. 2; there just isn’t another top-five QB prospect in this class right now beyond Fernando Mendoza. But getting linebacker Arvell Reese there then getting the class’ QB2 here? That’s a pretty good first round for New York.
Let’s be clear, though: I do have some concerns about Simpson. He has 15 career starts, which means this pick would come with a lot of risk. That’s just not enough game experience. We also can’t ignore his dip in performance in the second half of the 2025 season. But there’s also no questioning his upside. Simpson has good pocket presence, and he fired 28 touchdown passes and only five interceptions this past season. If the Jets can surround him with talent on offense and develop him, he has a high ceiling.”

  2. Please, don't reach for a QB, especially with all of the needs this team has on defense. I would take Bain or Downs with the 2nd pick if they don't trade down, which would be my preference. At 16, I would still look to trade down in order to obtain more 2nd or 3rd round picks, but if this doesn't happen, then go with the best available on defense or a wide receiver if there's one who can start on day 1 or shortly after. Ideally, I would like to see them develop a defense along the lines of the Texans, Seahawks, or the Broncos.

  8. Love the Reese pick, either him or bain at 2 would be absolutely A picks and then at 16 i'd rather just get a guy like Lemon or Denzel Boston from Washington, we need to get garrett wilson some damn separation lol

  12. If Mendoza is not there #2 then trade down.

    Finish building the offensive line, add to the defensive line, get two linebackers.
    There's Sawyer Robertson, Carson Beck, and Drew Allar if they really want a QB.

    Do not take Ty Simpson at all. The playoffs show short quarterbacks don't fare well.

  13. Drafting any QB is a waste of a pick if you are not positive that QB will be a top 5-10 QB in the league. This requires elite offensive playcalling and mentorship. The 16th overall pick in this draft is way too valuable to waste on a non-starter or even a good QB that will be replaced in a few years.

  14. At #2, you draft Rueben Bain Jr, Caleb Downs or Arvell Reese. Can't go wrong with any of those picks. Get a wide receiver at pick #16 (Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon, Denzel Boston, or KC Conception). Ty Simpson is a no in my opinion. 🚫

  19. How does Simpson help for this season,he won't get on the field and he does we probably go 5 -12,which will get The GM and Coach fired,so if I'm them im picking somebody who gets on fireld now, like McDonald at DT from Ohio State

  20. Like you said, the draft process will be HUGE this offseason. Unless a QB blows them away I still want Sonny Styles at 16. Getting 2 studs that can play multiple positions and have high energy is exactly what this defense needs.

  21. Reese is the most risky pick at 2. He didn't rush the passer all that often/well. Wouldn't be happy about that pick. Would rather take baily or bain. Maybe reese develops into the hybrid you're trying to sell to us but i don't see it. Simpson at 16 is also horrible lol take baily or bain at 2, then take lemon or boston at 16. That's my take anyways

  24. Jets fans should really be ashamed of themselves. I get it, Glenn is not a good coach-as of now.. But Jets fans have been bitching about penalties for YEARS! And now that Glenn has improved the team in that’s area, penalties no longer matter???

  25. Since we’re not going to be able to trade back from 2… Best case scenario Trinidad or Ty Simpson blow up in the offseason and the jets take either or at 16. We get our QB with a 5th option and we trade 33 because players every year fall out of the first round and someone would be willing to trade up to 33.

    33 is the pick I see us actually being able to trade out to acquire more draft caption = more players/starters
