How the Rangers Ruined a ‘Perfect Rebuild’..

The New York Rangers rebuild was supposed to be flawless. Lottery wins, elite prospects, Panarin, a Vezina goalie, deep playoff runs. So how did it all collapse? This video traces how a perfect NHL rebuild unraveled, why patience disappeared, and how a Presidents Trophy contender ended up starting over again.

  1. That draft was a scam. The NY ball was the only one that wasn't weighted. And for payment, the NY coach had to pay a fine. This league is a joke and a scam.

  2. Everyone is blaming Drury, and rightfully so, this is 90% his fault. But there are also some other factors outside of his control:

    1. Signing Trouba – Gorton signed Trouba at way too much money for one inflated offensive season he had on the Jets. There was no way to know how good Fox would become and how quickly, but this was a terrible move given the cap hit.
    2. Kakko and Lafreniere – They simply are not very good NHL players. You can blame poor development, and that's certainly a part of it, but the bigger problem is neither of them are elite skaters. To be a superstar nowadays, you need to be an elite skater, either in straightaway speed or edgework. Kakko and Laf have neither of those skills, and hence they never were able to create the separation to utilize their other skills.

But yes, overall this is Drury's fault. Boneheaded trades with no returns, over emphasis on "size and grit" over speed and skill, and terrible messaging throughout the organization and league. He should be fired as soon as possible.

  3. i do feel for New York for sure, but your team did not go from the President's Trophy to, at 1 point dead last in the NHL like my unfortunate Jets. Trust me whan i say the whiplash was extremely painful and we are only hopefully getting out of our hole, here one for you thought yup your on the struggle bus but we are driving and we lost the steering wheel about 11 games ago, the only thing is you really really have to beleve in your team because im my case its really hard to like them but BELEVE they have a plan for next year and finally your front office you got a letter to at least showed they understood we got chevy in front of a camera we are from here we have no idea what he was trying to say but it did not work

  4. This goes back to the fool who hired GG. A coach who never saw the completion of a 3rd year as head coach and hated playing or developing young players. Following that up with PL another who had just been canned by Washington due to locker room issues but he won the Stanley Cup 20 hears ago. WOW!!

Meanwhile, Chris Knoblock is doing a great job in Hartford, knows all the young Rangers in NY and Hartford moves to Edmonton and two Stanley Cup finals. Groton moves to Montreal who is getting better and the Rangers are heading back to oblivion with a roster full of undeveloped aging players in their 20's, former stars moving on (some of whom will win a Stanley Cup ring this year see McDonagh, Miller, Callahan a few years ago) and the Islanders & Devils moving past the Ranger faithful.

But, but, but the Rangers are going to rebuild. The only thing that will be rebuilt is Madison Square Garden.

  5. It's a cautionary tale, proving the "big rebuild" doesn't always work.
They had a 1st overall pick, 2nd overall pick, a 5th and a 9th. For every Tampa Bay and Chicago there's a Rangers and a Buffalo. Although Buffalo is finally looking good.

  6. It’s horrible what the Rangers did to this young man! And now he’s mid way through what is considered the prime years of a hockey career, and barely noticed. But there is still hope. I’ve been hoping for a number of years now how Montreal can get him! If you want to see how an old regime can destroy potential…look at Edmonton Oilers from almost 20 years ago, until now, and continuing. The only way McDavid may win a Cup is to be traded to a contender with depth. Which doesn’t get any more pitiful than that!

  7. The Rangers were for sure ruined a bit by managements and also coaching as well i think played a part in the Rangers downfall from the beginning. It just seems like they had absolutely no one to develop such great talents in the organization. It just more so felt like “we’ll just throw you on a line with Panarin and hope for the best”.

  8. Drury needs to go. Gallant gone . Laviolette gone. Both coaches had winning seasons ,a retool here and there would have worked. Keandre Miller was a l liability on defense. He was giving the puck away way too much in his own zone that wound up in the back of the net. Drury made some terrible decisions. 3 wins away from the finals. You trade , your captain , you're only defensive that hits and you can't score goals now , and you get rid of Krides? He fucked this team up real good. Drury has to go. The "Bread Man" consistently puts points up every year. And you're gonna get rid of him? Im done. Been going to the Garden since 1974. Im done

  9. They have always had a good team..players did not perform

    Simple

    Can't blame Drury.

    Problem in hockey
    .overcoaching
Too many coaches behind the bench

Too many stupid systems and worst

    Recycled coches

Players talents have been stifled by all these coaches …

You need one coach and assistant coach behind the bench
    .that's it
