I saw this and have to give Rich some credit for the support, but Shawn Morash from The Fan had a terrible take. Also, we didn’t go from Darnold to Fields—what is this dude talking about?

  1. nobody was saying the Jets should run it back with the Jets after 2020. Revisionist history

  2. Darnold never would have seen this success here. He needed lots of time to develop and understand how to play the game, and he still has PLENTY of brain fart moments like he had as a rookie. It doesn’t hurt that the Seahawks have an incredible offensive scheme and arguably one of the best defenses of all time. Moving on from Darnold in 2020 wasn’t the problem, it’s extreme revisionist history to pretend he was anything but awful as a jet.

  3. Why would Sam have wanted to come back to the Jets anyway lmao dudes life gets better the further west he is away from MetLife

  4. Morash is still trying to dry his Saquon tears.

If Darnold went to the SB the year after the Jets traded him it would be one thing. He stunk for another two seasons with Carolina, stunk with SF and then finally found his footing last season with the Vikings. It’s not even in the same ballpark.

It’s closer to how the Giants will feel if Daniel Jones goes to the Super Bowl in four years.

  5. We live in a world based of clicks and views. It took Sam how many different coaches and teams until he figured it out? Rich wins this easily.

  6. The issue the Jets made was putting a rookie head coach with a rookie QB who obviously needed time to develop. How Saleh handled Zach Wilson is a reason he should never have been a HC again, how many times was Zach benched and then put back to starter? Darnold becoming a really good QB just shows the Jets don’t know what they are doing with their coaching staff. Even Aaron Rodgers left and was throwing to worse receivers and still won double the amount of games he won with us. This team is just a total joke.

  7. I used to get Subway sandwiches made for me by Shaun Morash across the street from my high school, so it is always funny to me when I see his name come up in sports media.

  8. Morash is an idiot and a moron. The dude cried when the giants beat the eagles on Thursday. Oh and Barkley is clearly the better player than Darnold.

But other teams passed on Darnold too

  9. Cimini is just pissed because he was going to use that as his main focus to bash the Jets if the Seahawks make the playoffs and this doofus beat him to it.

  10. Darnold should have been given another chance, but no one in the fan base or NY sports media was echoing that. They were calling for his head every day on the FAN. He also had like 3 other stops in between, I think the Vikings look far worse.

The NY sports media is horrible, trashing players and coaches, then when they leave and do better they mock the organization.

  11. “Instead they chose Fields.”

This is the guy who gets paid to talk football (Talking Giants) and produces/contributes to a mid day show on the most popular NYC sports station.

  12. this is so stupid because why isnt this logic being used to shame the PANTHERS, or the 49ERS, or THE VIKINGS ?

you know 3 other teams “shown him the door” after us

    its literally jets for clicks

  13. I think Morash is saying we could have gotten Darnold in free agency last year, but that was a pipe dream. Sam was never coming back.

Morash is also a certified idiot and Cimini shouldn’t have even acknowledged the statement, but it’s whatever.

I feel the idea that Saleh and LaFleur would have fixed Sam to be laughable. The offense in ’21 wasn’t brimming with talent and the coaching was marginally better. If the Jets did take on Sam’s 5th year, he likely wouldn’t have performed well enough to stop the team from going all in on Rodgers.

I believe Sam acknowledged that it was Shanahan who really helped him elevate his game. So unless we have a time machine and go back to 2017 and get Shanahan to be the Jets coach, he was never going to succeed here.

  14. He’s saying that we could have signed Darnold instead of fields last offseason. Thus the second whiff.

  15. He’s talking about how Darnold was a free agent last year, but instead of bringing him back, we signed Justin Fields instead.

  16. Darnold isn’t the reason they’ve made it this far. I want to root for him but all of these jets narratives have made it impossible. No matter how bad we are people can’t keep our name out of their mouths.

  17. I feel like the Vikings letting him go when he was performing for an unproven rookie qb is a far worst move than both situations. Darnold went through multiple teams before he found his footing so the Jets giving up on him wasn’t a terrible decision. Saquon is completely different than both situations. Not knocking Saquon (who is also a great guy from all accounts) but the Giants were not going anywhere with him and although he is the best RB out there it is not hard to replace a RB. With a decent line any RB can be great as long as he has speed. I do not blame the Giants for letting him walk.

  18. This is why Wfan is complete trash now it was the standard for sports talk radio around the world and it has fallen lower and lower year by year with allowing guys that should sit behind the glass sit behind a mic now they even have the worst of them all fat boy Chris MC doing afternoon drive a spot once held by Mike and the mad dog omg Wfan it’s as bad as it can get even the great carton can’t save you now

  19. Nobody tunes into WFAN for hosts’ takes. Unfortunately, they think people tune in for their takes.

  20. This is the issue though and he’s not entirely wrong. A quarterback doesn’t magically fix a bad roster or bad coaching. For examples of this look at Bryce Youngs rookie season, Caleb Williams last season, or Cam Ward this year.

A good team with good weapons, a good line, good D/special teams and good coaching with a creative offensive scheme can succeed with an average QB (guys like Nick Foles or Andy Dalton). Guys like Alex Smith, Joe Flacco, Jimmy GQ have made it to and/or won SBs.

My concern for us right now is the coaching. The line and weapons are both pretty good. I’m not confident this coaching staff is able to succeed. If we draft a half decent QB and they start then we need to see development and half decent play calling. If we don’t then we need to make a change in coaching. This team should be able to look ok with any half decent QB, we have a good line and some good offensive weapons. There were games this year where our offence looked terrible. This can’t be entirely on Fields because we have seen him look better in the past than he did this year.

  21. He’s right, but Rich being the one to deliver that message is VERY ironic. Always funny to see two hacks go at it.

  22. I think he’s trying to argue that Woody should have signed Darnold last year instead of Fields. 1. I doubt Darnold was coming back here. 2. That logic could be used to shit on the Giants as well, who could have chosen to sign Darnold but instead went with Russ and Jameis. It could be argued of 20 different teams for that matter.

Rage bait. When even Cimini shouts that out, you know you’re off the deep end.

  23. Presumably, Morash has forgotten Aaron Rodgers was a Jet (which is something I sorely wish I could do).

  24. The only organization that looks bad if Sam goes to the Super Bowl is the Vikings. They had him on their team and let him go in favor of 9

  25. I am rooting for Darnold.

If anyone should be up in arms about him winning, it should be Vikings fans

  26. If Sam darnold had the team Zach wilson had at the end and thus also had time to develop we probably could of gotten a 10 win team or something.

But it also made sense to move on from him at that exact moment. Hindsight is cheating

  27. This is a much much worse situation for Minnesota than any other team listed. They had a superbowl roster and just needed a qb. They dumped Sam bc of 2 bad games and went with an unproven rookie.

That’s franchise malpractice but of course #lolJets

  28. Idk, you can rightly ridicule the Jets for picking Wilson over Darnold, but shouldn’t the Vikings be getting more shit? I mean, Darnold had a legit year for them and they let him walk out the door for JJ McCarthy.

  29. I get people wanting to clown the Jets. It’s easy. It’s safe. Everyone does it and there’s no real clap back for doing it because the Jets being bad is consistent and reliable.

Sam Darnold being a successful QB 7 years into his career, and playing for a chance to go to the Superbowl 8 years into his career is not a reason to clown the Jets. In fact, credit to the Jets scouts at the time for identifying that player BEFORE he was that player. The team failed to develop him. They failed to put pieces around him to help him. The Jets failed him, no arguments from anyone. But so did Carolina, who also failed Mayfield.

Darnold being so successful this season and possibly going to the Superbowl is absolutely a reason to clown the Vikings. Daniel Jones having so much success in the first half of the season is a reason to clown the Vikings. JJ McCarthy being so bad is a reason to pile on the Vikings.

I think O’Connell is a great coach. The Vikings had 3 QBs on the roster last year (I know McCarthy was injured) and they chose the worst one. The Jets were 4 teams ago for Darnold. People need to look at the teams in between if they want to rip on someone. Darnold isn’t the same QB today if he had stayed on the Jets. He wouldn’t have been exposed to Shanahan or O’Connell, who both were probably instrumental in his development.

I’m rooting for Sam. I wish it worked with us. I think his success is a way bigger black eye for the Vikings than anyone else. Unless McCarthy develops, but even then he’s gotta do that fast, because they could’ve have Sam for however long it takes.

  30. This dude is a moron if he is saying the new regime should have tried to bring back Sam. He was 3 years removed from the team when they game in and chose fields

  31. Morash is saying rather than going after Darnold this offseason like we realistically should have done, we went after Fields, which I also had no problem with them ultimately doing if Darnold wasn’t interested. But Darnold should have been the #1 target last offseason.

  32. It also hasn’t been decided that seattle will be going. The rams have beaten them this year. And the loss to seattle, was by very few points. So the rams could be the ones going to the super bowl. So it’s a bad take in general, do to getting things wrong with that.

  33. There was no one who wanted Sam to stay, everyone fell in love w Mr. Roll-Left-Bomb-Throw-Right-In-Tshirt& Shorts, and we had the #2 pick. Amazing how much destruction Wilson caused us, and he’s probably 1-3 years from being out of football altogether. Couldn’t be happier for Sam.

  34. He never said they went from Darnold to Fields. He said they chose Field instead of trying to go after Darnold. But if you want to say that Darnold would have been the wrong play, say that.

  35. It’s reporting like this that needs to ignored. Darnold was not a successful qb until he went to his third team after the Jets! We are bad organization with the most loyal fanbase, but reporting like this is NOT even remotely responsible!

  36. Reminder that this is the 4th team Darnold played for after us but we still get targeted for this slander.  I’m continually amazed how low iq these narratives are.

There’s a lot to slander the jets for but this type of stuff is painfully stupid and only eaten up by those who don’t really know ball.
