It feels like a lot at first glance, but NOLA wants two firsts for Murphy (so we give them that plus a matching salary). They're looking to move off Missi now that they have Derik Queen (we give them a first and a backup center in Nurk), and Herb Jones essentially gets traded for two young players (flip and Brice) with a role player level replacement at SF in the lineup (Svi) while the Pelicans rebuild.

The vision here is not to have these guys start, but rather to have a MONSTER bench unit with Murphy backing up Lauri, Jones off the bench for Ace, and Missi to be the backup Center to Walker.

Herb Jones: 27yo, 6'7", 205lbs, 10pts/4reb/2ast. All-Defensive first team in 23/24 (5th in DPOY).
Trey Murphy III: 25yo, 6;8", 205lbs, 22pts/6reb/3ast. Off the bench, he'd be a 6MOY candidate every single year.
Yves Missi: 21yo, 6'11", 235lbs, 6pts/6reb/1ast.

Starting: Keyonte, 2026FRP, Ace, Lauri, Kessler
Bench: Collier, Murphy III, Jones, Cody, Missi
Depth: Walt, Hendricks, Niang, and Tshiebwe

And if Walt Clayton is our 11th man on the roster, was it really that much to give up?

Thoughts?

  1. Pels are high on Herb Jones; they’ve already batted away interest from the Lakers and will prob only part with him for players better than Flip and Brice + picks.

  2. I don’t like giving up next years 1st cause bringing those guys in doesn’t change the season outcome by much. And we’d probably need to give up 4 firsts total to get all 3 of those guys. Love Murphy & Jones though and they would be great fits for the Jazz!
