  1. Y’all need to stop with the “regression” theories, because when you find out what is really happening you’d change your tone of throwing CJ under the bus.

In a nutshell, CJ is doing all he can based on his abilities. Y’all forget how many games he has won in the 4th quarter and those clutch passes that he has made to preserve the lead. CJ is a super talent, but he has weaknesses that he has to work through that was already mentioned prior to the draft. Those weaknesses were not exposed when he was playing at Ohio State, nor for most of his rookie season.

Stop this non-sense about he underperforms in the playoffs or he is to blame for the Texans not going to the playoffs. I certainly believe that the Texans know his weaknesses and has attempted to address this, because if it can be fixed, then the Texans would be unstoppable. I believe the league knows these weaknesses and it is a delicate matter.

Here it is. CJ has underperformed under extreme circumstances, which has directly correlated to his S2 Cognitive Score of 18%. These extreme circumstances occur, when CJ is faced with a perfect storm, when one or more of these variables occur: (1) His elite WRs are injured and he has nobody to throw to that can get the separation that caters to his strengths; (2) His running game is getting stuffed, when usually the battle at the trenches favor his opponent's defense, so now his offense is one-dimensional, pass only to get yards, leading to 3rd and long situations; (3) The defense is blitzing knowing that CJ's options are very limited so they are bull rushing him to make quicker decisions, which leads to a catastrophic failure.

Let's go deeper – this S2 Cognitive test measures football-related cognitive skills and reveals how a player's brain is wired to perform under pressure: perception speed, search efficiency, tracking capacity, visual learning, instinctive learning, decision complexity, distraction control, impulse control, and improvisation.

When you examine CJ's decision making abilities and his performance under pressure, you can clearly see that his low score of 18% has a great impact upon his football-related cognitive skills, which leads to his failed performance under complex situation such as a strong pass rush, which is the final blow after you take away the running game and his elite receivers, who usually get injured during the playoffs. People forget this!!!

This is a delicate cognitive matter and not a deliberate physical performance matter. CJ needs time to address this issue, which takes more time than usual because it is a process issue, for his brain to perceive speed, search efficiency, track capacity, learn visually, learn instinctively, and make complex decision and improvising, while controlling distraction and impulses.

I doubt CJ is aware of what he doesn't know, in real time, although, after the fact, he is brought into realization of corrections that he needs to make. As a young QB, he has a lot of time to get better. The real question is how much patience does the Texans have and will CJ be able to overcome this issue. We know that CJ, when given the time and has elite WRs that he is a Top 5 QB. That has always been the case, since he was at Ohio State, where he had a strong team in all phases of the game. More importantly, he had the elite WRs that were so much NFL ready that they were top 12, 1st round draft picks. The Texans have a better defense comparatively than Ohio State, but lacks the offensive team components that made CJ the #2 draft pick in 2023. Ironically, he would have been #1 if his S2 Cognitive scores were not release.

If C.J. had Collins, Dell, and Schultz healthy as his primary weapons, this wouldn’t even be a discussion. But with all of them injured and no running game, this puts him between a rock and a hard place, because he has less options to explore, relying solely on the pass, and his WR3 is going against DB1, his WR4 is going against DB2. To put it plainly, the odds were stacked against CJ and he has a S2 Cognitive issue that amplifies the challenges that he has to face.

Yes, C.J. has things he needs to improve. His decision-making is not instinctive at an NFL level, but he’s a Top-5 quarterback when he has time to throw and 2–3 elite receivers available. Nobody throws a softer, more catchable ball than C.J.

    To elevate him:

    1. Fix the offensive line to allow both the run game and pass protection.

    2. Get a new OC or a strong QB mentor—give him more plays that roll him out of the pocket or allow receivers to find soft spots instead of running predictable scripted routes directly into defenders.

    3. Create a bull-rush decision-making drill to force C.J. to make fast reads and speed up his internal clock.

If the Texans fix these weaknesses, C.J. will be a Top-5 quarterback—and everyone will jump right back on the bandwagon.

  2. CJ Stroud needs to get on a workout regimine. His physical look is like a bar a soft cream cheese. He needs to toughen and be a damn leader. He seems somewhat immature to me still and this is a crossroads moment in his career. also he needs to cut those ridiculous kid like looking dreads. Bottom line he isn't mature enough and needs to man up he needs a person/man to mentor him . He needs to get rid of the lacifier/trying Wheels and put his big boy pants on. he has the talent but needs somebody to tell him the truth and not sugar coat things.

  3. Texans fan here, 7 TOs in two playoff games is disastrous. 4 INT in 1st half is embarrassing and inexcusable. That pick 6, was game changer and momentum killer. I would also blame DeMeco for not have the balls to pull CJ out and put in Mills in the 2nd half. Especially for a chance to go to the SB.

  4. CJ has no killer instinct, he will never be the Grimm Reaper like Mahomes. CJ also has a very fragile psyche, he has to be coddled and told how special he is….. I was at the game in KC when Dell got hurt, CJ was inconsolable, balling and wailing like a baby. He is not mentally tough.

  5. I picked the Texans and Seahawks to go to the Superbowl, but obviously I didn't expect Stroud to play as bad as he did in the playoffs. He was atrocious.
