I don’t hate it.
Kimbrel understands high leverage situations, and has a lot of experience. On a minor league deal, why not?

I assumed he was terrible last season but he wasn’t in the short time he pitched. Is it really far fetched to think he has another year or two left?

I won’t be surprised if there’s an understanding between them that if he doesn’t win a bullpen spot that he’s just going to retire. I can’t see him wanting to actually pitch in the minors at this point.

This is just a shitty 2026 Netflix reboot of the Mets signing Kyle Farnsworth and Jose Valverde in 2014.
If there’s still some gas in the tank, great. Seems he pitched well enough last season in the limited time he had with the Astros.

One of my all-time favorite pitchers. If he makes the roster at any point during the year I’ll be finding a shir-sey
In 2024 he was bad (5.33 ERA over 52 innings), in 2025 he was good (2.25 ERA over 12 innings), but in both seasons he had a FIP of almost exactly 4.20, so that’s probably what he is now. But that’s actually about the same FIP as most of the Mets starters last year, so for a freebie try-out there’s no reason not to.
