  1. You are talking as if Jarry has been bad. Little sample size and only mentioning save percentage… Jarry has been at least above expectation at Edmonton. The tandem looks way better than better with Ingram&Jarry, and the oilers winning-loss in the second half of the season proves that.

  2. Can't see them making it back again to the finals. The path is very difficult with those central teams and an improved Vegas team that added Marner and Andersson.

  3. People only talk about the Oilers when they have a terrible game lol. Jarry and Ingram have looked like the 1st legit goalies the Oilers have had since Talbot especially Ingram. It's been a long time since I haven't been nervous every time a cross ice pass is made or every 2 on 1.

  4. Have I been watching a different Oilers team? They look terrible. ZERO defense, including the games they win. Oilers still can't score 5-on-5. McDavid has run out of gas and he still has Olympic hockey to play. Drai is a shadow of himself.

And to top it all off, the entire league now has a book on the Oilers and their systems. Every team that has curb stomped them has done so by putting massive pressure on the defensive core through the forecheck and in the defensive zone have played up high toward the blueline, squeeze the Oilers defensive players, resulting in a lot of turn overs and breakaways. Oilers are terrible at dump and chase because nobody is capable/willing to battle for the puck, leaving McDavid (or someone else on the rare occasion they get ice time) to carry the puck into the offensive zone where half the time he's stripped of it before he's able to do anything with it.

  5. To be fair to Sullivan, there are quite a few guys that are new this year or were acquired late last year. Mantha, Brazeau, Wotherspoon, Novak, Dewar, Kindel, Chinakhov, Kulak …. now, at the same time, do I think Sully would have gotten the best out of those players like Muse has? Hell no.

  6. I’ve said for years that the oilers biggest issues have been TEAM defence and consistency. While some nights it clearly feels like the back end is the issue you can often find some of Edmontons best forwards sleeping at the wheel or making the mental mistakes. They can often leave goalies out to dry and left to face quality chances and open man shots.
Also I never leave out of the possibility and impact of sports gambling in the NHL having an effect on games. All it takes is a few dropped pass, giveaways in your own end, clearly saveable goals going in, “missed” assignments. Reffing. A lot of head scratching stuff can go on in hockey games yet it always feels more “disguised” and just human error. Perhaps deliberate error goes on more than we realize or want to recognize cause of what it would mean for hockey. It doesn’t want that shadow cast over the league

  7. Lefelong Pens fan here, since the '80s.

I'm done being diplomatic about this: Mike Sullivan sucks. He's a mediocre coach who came into the right situation at the right time. It seems unfair—maybe even insane—to say a team "got lucky" winning four rounds of NHL playoffs. But the 2017 Penguins weren't the 2016 Penguins. The 2017 Penguins were lucky to have won again. Go back and watch those games. The Penguins got badly outplayed in a lot, but got timely saves and opportunistic goals. If they won they won. But the wheels were already falling off Sullivan's system by his second season with the Penguins.

Then it was just a battle of attrition. The older Crosby and Malkin got, the less they could prop up Sullivan's stupid roster decisions and DOA game plan. Eventually it collapsed and the playoff drought started. It might've taken a year longer than necessary, but thank the hockey gods Dubas had the balls to fire "mutually part ways" with Sullivan.

  8. I never understood the point of the trade. The problem with skinner was that he was a good goalie, not the great goalie the Oilers need to make up for their defensive shortcomings. So the solution was…trade for another good but not great goalie?

  9. I will never get the unwarranted hate of the Oilers by leafs fans. Even to the point where “the panthers are a greasy team” when they lose to them, but when the panthers beat the oilers in the finals it’s “because they play the right way.”

  10. Mike Sullivan, much like Mike Tomlin, seems afraid to play younger guys and lets the team rot. I thought the exact thing about the teams protecting the goalie. But at least Skinner isn't made of glass. 🙂

  11. 2:30 unfortunately for them the goalie who has won playoff SERIES and played in 2 cups.. is on the Penguins. They have Jarry who has NEVER WON A PLAYOFF SERIES. Let that sink in

  12. When we can see poor D from their top paid D men then why didn't they. Nurse and Desharnais were terrible, but they only moved Desharnais.

  13. Last year was a step back year for the Oilers and BEFORE this season began it was OBVIOUS this year would be another step back year and the Oilers would NOT reach the final 4 in 2026. All falls on the management. Brown and Perry walking away signalled the END of McDavid's chances of winning a CUP in Edmonton. McDavid only stayed another couple years for the guys in the ROOM. LOYALTY above ALL.

  14. As much as I do put blame on Sullivan. And give credit to Muse the same theory applies and the rest of the blame goes to Hextall or Burke who ever was controlling trades and contracts during that span and the credit needs to go to Dubas as well.
