After winning 2 MVPs and 2 NBA titles, not to mention breaking the all time single season win record, Joe Lacob STILL wanted to lowball Curry in his potential contract offer, and he was going to do it until Myers stepped in and convinced him otherwise (:

The current FO is fucking garbage.
1 year off his unanimous MVP 💀💀💀
Curry should request for a trade at this point, agreed?
Waiting for this team to suck again so we can get those sell the team chants going
Lacob said in an interview that he thought Steph was done around 5-6 years ago. Which makes sense with the 2 timelines. Curry was never his project. He came with the purchase of the franchise. People with egos care about that. Basketball junkies would see past this, he does not. Curry is loyal to Kerr and the bay, not to Lacob

First time I heard of this, Thats absolutely crazy
The same Steph that was the highest paid player from 2017-2024 ? He was the first to 40 mil and 50 mil per year. This the same FO that had the highest payroll for like 3+ years.
A bit of a naive post IMO.
This was the 1st ever $200M+ contract in NBA history. Not unexpected for a team owner, who is not at all a basketball guy, to pause and wonder if it’s really worth that kind of scratch for a single player? That’s why owners have GMs/Scouts/Coaches – to tell them, heck yeah it’s worth it, he’s the guy who defines the franchise, give him the full $. If Lacob had overruled his GM and decided not to pay Curry, then you’d have a more interesting point.
But for a non-basketball guy to pause before turning over $200 million and ask a few questions, totally understandable.
You can call Lacob egotistic or a bad owner or whatever, but one thing he is not is cheap.
Saw it with Jerry Krause and Jordan, Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson. GM in first case, owner in second, both examples of Dunning-Kruger. Iguodala said as much last year: [https://www.reddit.com/r/warriors/comments/1hd58xd/andre_iguodola_when_asked_recently_how_much_of/](https://www.reddit.com/r/warriors/comments/1hd58xd/andre_iguodola_when_asked_recently_how_much_of/)
This is such a silly post. One its from 10 years ago, does it matter? The second thing is this dynasty was built on cap flexibility. Of course Steph deserves his money but it also meant he spent the last part of his career just him against the world. So what if the owner didnt want to give him a max, so what if the Patriots never paid Brady top QB money, they created a dynasty off that flexibility. Soon as its a front office post you know its nonsense here, thank God none of you are close to being decision makers
Lacob is another tech owner who thinks he is the genius and not the fact that market is doing most of the heavy lifting.
Steph probably doesn’t jump high enough to excite Lacob.
Ok and…? This sub has turned into New England Patriots level of toxic, entitled nitpicking of a historic dynastic run for this franchise.
I swear some of y’all always need a bad guy to fight
I get why Jerry West and Bob Myers were frustrated at this organization. Joe Lacob needs to stand the fuck back and let his hires do their job. Owners never see the vision. I’m starting to lean into the idea of curry leaving us. These idiots have no respect for the chips and loyalty these players give. Especially Curry and Klay
Bruh, it feels like this ownership is gonna take the dubs into post Jordan Bulls territory instead of Post Duncan Spurs territory.
Why not?
Sell the team.
It’s increasingly seeming like Steph has had as much success as he has despite the org and not because of it
Lacob‘s starting to stink the place up.
When a player demands a max contract he has to accept the fact that he is eventually is not going to have any help around him. This may just be me but I would rather win until I retire then have a extra $20 million. If they didn’t owe Curry almost $60 million now they wouldn’t be in the shape they are in
Lightyears Lacob bought the team at 450m. It’s now worth 10b. Curry is a huge factor. Does Chase get built without curry? Do NBA tv rights deal explode? Are the warriors the most expensive ticket in the league.
I love that Joe is willing to spend the money. Your example is a clear indication some of his shortsightedness.
If you’re goimg to link the article, you might as well quote it accurately:
> as the Warriors prepared for the postseason, Warriors owner Joe Lacob was considering offering Curry a contract below the max…” ”
Below the max” does not mean “lowball.” And then there’s the next paragraph:
> Curry wound up getting the largest contract in NBA history…
I’ve always warned that Lacob is just a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Lacob should be giving him a piece of the team.
it made sense if they wanted to keep the core together?
They started losing key pieces year by year. You def didn’t want him to sign those year-by-year contracts that Lebron and Durant were signing at the time.
Joe likes money more than he likes Steph
What else would you expect of any ordinary oligarch?
Investment bro mentality. He invested in a winner and now wants his own spotlight too… his notes, opinions, fingerprints everywhere. Thinks he’s operating on a higher plane and thinking light years ahead. Now he wants his “second” and “third” bets to magically turn into dynasties because he touched them.
Lacob needs to sell the team back to Cohan! /s
He pitched the idea but conceded. I don’t see a problem with that. Overstepping the GM would have been worse.
Mmm, smells like eight-year-old clickbait
